have you READ the Ballad of Mulan or are you assuming the Disney live action is real history?
The Ballad is 31 lines divided into two parts. Part 1 is her leaving for war to take her fathers place and sleeping by a river to mask the cries of her family.
Then the story shifts to 12 years later when she returns home and takes up the life of a woman.
NOWHERE does it describe her 12 years in the army or her training or even any fighting.
