How Alice In Wonderland Was Created In 1951 Versus The Live Action Disney In 2010. We love a Disney animation vs. live action remake debate, and our subject today is Alice in Wonderland. The 1951 movie by Walt Disney is so iconic, but Tim Burton managed to make his adaptation of the Lewis Carroll stories all his own in his 2010 version. How are these two films similar in their making of, and how do they differ? Join us as we go behind the scenes to explore how they created the characters, what the filming process was, what served as inspiration for each movies overall look, and how key scenes were put together differently. This is the ultimate original vs. remake comparison. The making of the 1951 Disney animation is fascinating to look at because the moviemakers did things so differently back then. That goes without saying, but did you know that they actually developed the movie with the voice actors really acting out their parts? Kathryn Beaumont, the voice behind Alice, reveals all the secrets about their live action reference process. She got into an Alice costume and acted with props, while the animators sketched her movements and expressions. The other voice actors also did this discover which one adlibbed so well his offthecuff lines were used instead of the recording booth scripted versions. As for the 2010 version, there were all kinds of filming methods, from motion capture to live action to pure animation. Learn how Johnny Depp acted the Mad Hatter, how Mia Wasikowska grew so big when Alice grew, and how Helena Bonham Carters head looked so massive.
