First of all, no one is wearing a shift, which would make the stays much more comfortable because its a layer of fabric between the skin and the stays. second of all, tight lacing, a rare event, wouldnt have been a thing or even useful. With the hand-done eyelets, you really cant pull tight and you dont even have a reason to. Regency fashions didnt even show the waist, so the most painful thing that might have been uncomfortable, had they been wearing shifts, the only part of the outfit that would be washed, would probably be the busk, a Wooden or bone stick, that goes in a pocket in the center front of the stays. This is one of my pet peeves. If you dont agree with me, then fine, but at least go watch one of bernadette banners videos.

The costume designer saying there was no how no way to make the costumes more comfortable is absolutely ridiculous and she should absolutely not work again. Corsets and stays can be very comfortable, when constructed and made correctly. Were the corsets made to the actresses measurements, properly broken in, and for the love of god allowed to wear a shifts underneath, they would have had no complaints. Corsets may take a bit to get used to, but if an actresses is complaining of bruising, thats a sign of a costumer being wholly inadequate and their job.

Second of all: bloomers? bloomers werent really a thing in that time period, you couldve saved some fabric and make some chemises instead, no one would wear corsets on bare skin and almost no one would tight lace them, also these arent corsets they are stays. You can modernize whatever you want just do some actual research first

I wear split drawers and regency stays for hours upon end during the weekends in the summer. Wearing split drawers is more comfortable than modern underwear, thank you linen and cotton. For the stays, you must season it. I just wore a brand new set of stays for 5 hours while playing D&D. That means that the few bones it has has the ability to start to form to my own personal shape. They are comfortable if done correctly.

In the Regency Era, women didn't wear tight corsets. they wore stays which were not tight. They also wore layers underneath the stays. And if the corset was fitted well, they would not cause pain or discomfort. The writers of these vids probably should do more research about this stuff.

Should say that corset is normal one its not historical even the long one wouldn't be necessary tight lacing waysnt a deal during the natural body time these costumes were styled in as well. Its more like a ill fit undergarments or a intentional design.

I am thinking. That maybe those marks are there to show what the ladies of that time might have been subject too. Anyway I don't think the producers would put their star through that kind of pain. The producers seem so great. I think it was staged. S. G.

Regency corsets weren't tight laced. In fact, they weren't corsets at all. They were stays. The regency silhouette basically trued to hide the the natural waist so the stays were basically just the same as a bra. They were just there to provide support

Yes! I wear a corset nearly 24/7. No it doesn't hurt but it sure helps my slipping rib syndrome. please stop saying they are all bad. That's not true. Not if it fits right. You wear a liner or shirt under and dont lace so tight that it does hurt.

The corsets were supposed to have a busk of wood going down the front of the corset. must have been uncomfortable sitting downbut most women did not too many dresses as they depict in this seriesclothing even for the rich were expensive.
