Theres been countless retellings of the Cinderella story over the year, whether its Disney toon, Rodger & Hammersteins musical with Whitney Houston, Drew Barrymores Ever After, Hilary Duffs A Cinderella Story, Anna Kendrick in Into The Woods, or most recently Disneys live action remake starring Lily James. Now Kay Cannon, the writer behind the Pitch Perfect films, takes on a modern revisionist telling of the story with an allstar cast led by pop sensation Camila Cabello as well as Idina Menzel, Billy Porter, Pierce Brosnan, and Nicholas Galitzine. This Cinderella prefers to do things her own way and instead of dreaming to become a princess, she much prefers to become a business woman and fashion designer. Fashion plays a huge role in this Cinderella redo and costume designer Ellen Mirojnick went all in on making these costumes feel timeless, bold, and even spunky. Porter, who plays the now gender ambiguous Fab G, even helped design his costume for the film, opting not to go for a drag queen look but instead create a magical outfit that combined masculine and feminine features. Menzels character is one of the only characters who has an eraspecific wardrobe, just not one youd expect. Instead Menzels wardrobe harkens back to the eighties! Making Cinderellas ballroom dress was one of the biggest challenges as audiences all over the world have felt that Cinderella is synonymous with that blue dress, but the team in this film decided to go a different route and making a dress that would simultaneously feel magical but also uniquely feminist
