The battles in the Harry Potter films have some incredible effects and CGI that help bring it all to life. Whether it was fire being enhanced, magic trees attacking, fantastic creatures sweeping through the sky and wreaking havoc, the editing team for these Wizarding World movies never failed to nail it and brought the magic to our screens.
Behind the scenes often looked pretty different from the final cut. In our world, lights dont actually come out of wands while casting spells, so there are a lot less brightly coloured lights on the scene. How did Ralph Fiennes face always look so snakelike whenever he was on screen and at war? The magic of CGI. Its the same tool that was used in his final moments as he dissolves into thin air. The set of the Battle of Hogwarts was covered in rubble and full of swarms of performers the chaos didnt end there though, camera crew members were actually running through the crowd backwards to capture the battle!
The Battle of the Seven Potters as they ran for their lives in disguise relied heavily on CGI, especially when we first meet all seven Potter imposters. Radcliffe had his work cut out for him. As for the flying motorcycle, Potter and Hagrid performed while totally stationary.
The major battle in the Room of Requirement in the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 featured loads of fire in the final cut AND on the set when filming! In order to add convincing CGI, the actors were working with practical sets and safety harnesses to ensure they could do all that was required of them. To make all this magic happen, every single member of the team, from the actors, camera people, directors, editors to the CGI specialists gave 100% and successfully brought the wizarding world to our screens Date: 2022-06-06
