The Gray Man is pushing to become the next big action movie franchise so the Russo Brothers and the rest of the stacked cast put their heart and soul into making sure it gets there. Two hundred million dollars goes a long way. Being the most money Netflix has ever invested in a film.
With Ryan Gosling leading the helm in his first ever action movie, he blew the Russo's away with his dance choreography training that came in handy for the fight scenes and even made him a more impressive stage combat fighter than Captain America's Chris Evans himself! Most action movies get about four stunt scenes but this one was paired down from the novel's eleven to nine. Nine! That's actually insane. About three quarters of the movie is all action sequences.
One hilarious moment was compared to Monty Python she. Director Joe Russo showed Ryan Gosling how a stunt is done by stepping in himself. Did you know this movie had almost no cut scenes? Post-production can't be understated. But the only scene that did have cuts was that hospital scene because they were experimenting with a ton of different stuff.
Despite the movie being called The Gray Man, it's chocked full of colour. This was done intentionally to capture the audience's attention but they did use subtle lighting and filmmaking techniques to help the gray man fade into the background just a little bit.
