Marvel VFX is no joke! Especially when it comes to this new and improved Disney Plus version of Ms. Marvel. When creating the iconic Kamala Khan, the creative time behind the show actually had to develop her powers from scratch that s a totally new thing in the MCU universe.
They ended up playing around with color schemes and landing on blue as an ode to her hero, Captain Marvel, and eventually, Kamala Khan s Hard Light powers were born. There are so many incredible visual effects in this vibrant miniseries. We ve got small things like extras being placed in empty corners, to massive things like major explosions or elephant toothpaste spilling throughout the high school hallway.
Did you know the VFX team spent more time on a twelve-second shot than anything else in the entire series? They also utilized set extensions for many places in the show including Jersey City itself, while still using actual references for their digital designs. When it came to the fight sequences, all of the weapons were created using VFX, which took several steps to complete even Kamala s ability to embiggen proved to be quite the challenge for this seasoned VFX team.
One thing they did do practically, though, was utilize on-camera lighting to help bring Kamala s telekinetic powers to life. They did quite the dance when it came to getting all those lightbulbs just right they didn t want to rely solely on the VFX team for it.
