we’re counting down our picks for the top 20 biggest differences between Avatar’s animated show and its live-action series. Our countdown of the differences between Avatar: The Last Airbender animated and live-action shows includes King Bumi Is Nearly Blown Up, Jet & Teo Arrive Much Earlier, Pakku Never Teaches Katara, Zuko’s Crew Members Aren’t Random, and more! What change surprised you the most So, Azula and Zhao are in the same season in the new series, whereas Azula basically replaced Zhao at the end of Book 1 in the original series.
Iroh would never have the heart to kill anyone no matter how evil they were unless he had no other choice. Even in the awful 2010 film, he didn't really kill anyone.
I guess this was their way of cramming as much of the first 2 seasons into one as possible. Maybe they plan on adapting the comics that follow the series in later seasons, but want to see how their adaptation of the original series goes before doing so.

the most surprising change in my opinion is the character differences between bumi, ozai and azula. Bumi in the original gave aang tough love and lessons out of respect and love for his friend. but in the live action, he was salty and bitter about how his friend seemingly abandoned them all. the dynamic of their friendship was really awkward to me. Ozai had a major chains in the fact that he actually cared and showed interested in zuko. while in the original he never liked or even thought zuko was really his own. going as far as willing to kill zuko much earlier in his life but zuko's mother gave up her life to spare zuko. as for Azula, she is no longer the perfect child, it seems like shes still learning to get her blue flame, and only just learned lighting bending. in the original she never had to prove herself, she was over confident and cocky through out. but in this, she clearly shows daddy issues and trying to win his approval and has a chip on her shoulder and is constantly angry

Not 100% happy with all the changes they did in the Live-Action show, I didn't like the fact that they changes King Bumi's personality towards Aang. I didn't like them bringing characters from season 2 in to season 1 way too soon like with Azula and her friends. I didn't like that they only did 8 episodes for the first season when the original had 20 episodes and the fact that Aang didn't do any waterbending. There are a whole lot I am unhappy with, but other than all of that it was a good show and I look forward to season 2 if it ever happens. But I do love that Daniel Dae Kim, AKA Johnny Gat was in this Avatar the Last Airbender as the bad guy as Fire Lord Ozai.

There will be probably a time skip between season 1 and 2. The comet thing now would not work considering that Gordon is growing very fast. They will probably push the comet thing to way later than it was in the animated show. From the look of things show should get a second season. Its mixed reception but since last airbender fans are known to be toxic its doing good because critics are the main ones who complain and audience reception is relatively alright.

compared to shyamalan's, this is way better. but compared to the animated series, this is still crap and ridiculous, some scenes are even cringey. im not expecting an 1: 1 adaptation, but so many things are waay off, many points of the story are missing. holy crap they even butchered iroh's character, less wisdom, less fierce. i dont know how will they gonna develop him in the future, but i dont think we'll gonna have 'the tales of ba sing se' gems out of him.

Fun facts: the Netflix show sucks.
The show's characters are mostly not true to the original.
Most of the main character are acting like they never watched the anime. They act like they are reading from a teleprompter.
The avatar state sucks with poor CGI
Too much gender swap.
They are afraid to let loose.
My advise, please read the manga or better still, watch the god damn anime.
The water bending sucks.
Hire better script writers.

It's better than the movie but I still don't like it. Nothing is going to be on par with the original animated series. I get there are changes neccessary for live action but I don't like some of the cast's appearences or the story mash ups. I understand it but it rubs me the wrong way to the point I just can't enjoy it. It's also hard to watch this video because an add keeps interupting it every two minutes!

I don’t like that they cut off the first fight between Aang and Zuko in the ship. Or that they took away the fireball moment and gave it to Katara. And Katara is one of my favorite characters, she is such a badass. They don’t need to give her these pity moments. She becomes one of the most powerful Water benders ever. Also Aang need more humor, not as much as the original, but more.

First i never really expected a full one to one recreation of the og in live action as that would make no sense and because that would be a tragedy to the original show. Im happy with some of the changes as it makes the war more relevant with spies, terror attacks and allows for grittier scenes. And i think it makes the traveling more realistic andthe urgency of learning the other elements

i really like it! sure, it's not perfect, but the creators made it their own while still delivering the main plot points. the visuals are stunning, the bending is great, and Dallas Liu as Zuko and Ian Ousley as Sokka absolutely stole the show. really hoping Netflix green lights books 2 and 3 and film them back to back, because those 8 episodes made me feel like i was 7 again!

I hoped Azula gets her redemption arc in this adaptation.
She is much of a victim as her brother Zuzu since their father sees them as nothing but tools of war or prodigies.
Everything they have done is to win their father’s love and approval, not just for the Fire Nation.
But Firelord Ozai is not the fatherly kind of person than Uncle Iroh.

Maybe because of FFVII Rebirth, I am enjoying the subtle changes that continue the character journeys I love.
I miss the humor and charm, there isn’t enough of it.
I just hope in fleshing out the characters (as the actors age and learn their craft better: ALA Harry Potter/ Stranger Things)
Were given time to see the entire epic story

15: 43 That part made me happy because it's dumb that Yue doesn't have waterbending in the og show when she has the spiritual abilities of the moon after all and I like the addition she can travel to the spirit world because it makes sense she would be able to have more connections to the spirit in a strange way she is her own avatar

Something i really liked in the netflix live action was during the fight between katara and paku katara uses her ice disc when sparring with paku and one ice disc flies past his face and he sees his reflection i honestly thought that was a really awesome little thing that definetly added to the humor

Happy Avatar day to everyone, and I noticed it right away after the pilot and episode 3, I'm on episode 5 right now. The hand to hand combat in this series is full contact as well as the bending aspect.
It didn't really affect the journey much, just kept the journey as it is like the OG.

Surprised you didn’t mention that heartbreaking scene in ep. Four where Iro says he’s co Ming with Zuko on his hunt and he says he doesn’t need a babysitter and he answers how about a friend and then a xylophone rendition fo leaves form the vine starts playing. Crying face. 22: 16

sometimes i think the knowledge of zuko's arc in the animated series is the worst thing to happen to any live-action adaptation. they all seem too scared to make him too much of a villain at first, even though that's the whole point of his redemption arc.
reply

What I love best about the changes is that they don’t interfere with the overall storyline nor take away from the quality of it at all, unlike that horrible film did. This adaptation, while not as good as the original, is still truly amazing
reply

I'm just happy the new live action series is being more faithful to the original show, like with the design and look of the characters is far more accurate than the, ahem, live action movie. which is Bruno, we don't talk about it.
reply

This is by no means a perfect adaptation; but I still thought that it was a really solid series. In any case, I think we can all agree that it is leagues better than the M. Night Shyamalan moviethat does not exist.
