Zodiac is definitely the best one. Helter Skelter was realistic and one of the books I read, I think after the movie. The Frozen Ground I feel sadly inspired other killers, I think like the suspected Gilgo Beach Killer. It said it was inspired by a movie I haven't seen yet, The Most Dangerous Game. I think that premise has shown up in several other movies. It was mentioned in Zodiac too.
I can only hope, if not anything else, it is so important to learn and practice self-defense practices. I don't like relying on guns because they require loading and distance to be safe. Too many young people are buying prison sentences using them the wrong way. Not that one shouldn't have one. Just in a surprise attack, you need to be able to outsmart someone who often plans their crimes.
One thing about these kinds of criminals, like the wonderful Thomas Harris taught us, first they covet their victims. Or create a narrative to follow and obsess over. Why when attacked, you need to be able to make good use of resources. Fear of the unknown is a victims most common enemy. Be careful. Understand the mindset of a huge portion of our world. Teach children because they have become many fiends preferred victims.

I think it's time to put a moratorium on movies about Ted Bundy. There is nothing else that needs to be said about that monster. Deliberate Stranger is probably the best of the movies because it's based on a book by Ann Rule who knew him.
I remember watching To Catch a Killer about Gacy. Brian Dennehy was scary. My younger brother was around 22 at the time, and it really bothered him. He found Brian Dennehy's portrayal as Gacy so disturbing that he couldn't watch anything else the actor was in.
Also, I'm from Southern Ontario and lived not far from where Bernardo and Homolka murdered her sister, Tammy, Leslie Mahaffey, and Kristen French. I don't believe Karla was a victim or an abused wife. She WAS absolutely her a$$hole husband's partner. All these years later, the deal she got infuriates people.
In case you're interested, she's now living near Montreal, Quebec. She's remarried, and God help them, she has kids.

To humanize the women who killed on Manson's behalf while blaming him entirely is hilariously hypocritical.
If you think women have the same agency and capabilities as men, then you have to hold them to the same standards of accountability.
If you believe they aren't entirely the guilty party for the murders THEY committed, then you don't believe women have the same capacity as men.
The degree of hypocritical thinking in regards to how we treat women today is disgusting and laughable. It only takes an average mind to completely tear down most of contemporary thinking with pretty basic logic.

I find it weird that we live in a world where we look down down killers and yet we tend to put them in the spotlight where we make films about them which gives them more recognition rather good or bad. Especially since we have all kinds of killers. Seems a bit hypocritical as a species. Shouldn't we just lock them up and NOT acknowledge them thru any media.

Ed Gein was a real monster. Robert Block wrote the novel Psycho about Gein’s terrible deeds. Hitchcock read the book and the rest is cinematic history. Gein turned human skin into clothing. Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs. A similar take is Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

My Friend Dahmer and Ted Bundy should have been a bit higher in my opinion. Ross Lynch’s performance as Dahmer was brilliant and so was Michael Reilly Burke’s performance was too, the execution scene terrified me, it looked like he was really being electrocuted

A few of these movies I hated. The greatest movie on this list to me is Citizen X. I think of what it must have felt like to be that officer and to be so frustrated. If only people like Chikatilo were done like that at the end of the movie.

The Deliberate Stranger came out while I was in high school and so started my fascination with true crime. Especially Ted Bundy! I could never look at Mark Harmon the same again! Hands down my favorite serial killer movie.

The Vanishing (1988) is the most creepiest Serial Killer movie I have ever seen, that one freaks me out without shedding any drop of blood or a scene of violence, those who haven't seen it should watch it.

To me, this was 917 murders and 1 suicide. The movie, Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones. Great flick starring Powers Booth as Jones. Outstanding performance, won an Emmy.
