I can't speak about lawsuits or maybe even controversies but there are some movies this made me think of:
Passion of Christ ) - It was a movie where a ton of people had to leave mid-way due to the cruxifiction scene, and it was apparently done with so much gore, that people would actually pass out or vomit then and there. I've seen this covered on a few vids here, though.
Osmosis Jones - Personally I liked it as a kid, but as an adult, I can see how people absolutely hated this movie. It has a ton of grossout humor, especially in the live action scenes, and in a way, Frank was a very disgusting character in the film. It was a major box office flop, though at least it still made a spinoff series and had a well known villain. It also had a song promoting rape being sung during the film. Apparently even Chris Rock hated his roll as Osmosis Jones, which to me is sad, but since I don't know why (and may need to look this up, I can't say anything otherwise. I liked his roles in other films as well, and it seemed like he enjoyed them as well since he came back to do them.
Also fun fact: Apparently they were considering Tim Allen to voice Thrax. I'm just trying to compare that to what we got. :P
A Nightmare on Elm Street (remake): Idk, even my horror movie friends hated it. I'm not sure if it was due to pure fondness for the OG films, but they said it sucked miserably. They said things like Freddy was nothing like the OG (aside from not having his original actor, his makeup was awful and his humor wasn't there, and it sounds like the director even screwed up Transformers movies at the time, so. Maybe Freddy's dead for good.

Another lawsuit claimed plagiarism of a screenplay by Princess Samantha Kennedy. It was dismissed with prejudice.

I'm shocked Peggy Lee's lawsuit against Disney wasn't mentioned. WIKI: Lee provided speaking and singing voices for several characters in the Disney movie Lady and the Tramp (1955. She also co-wrote, with Sonny Burke, all of the original songs for the film. In 1987, when Lady and the Tramp was released on VHS, Lee sought performance and song royalties on the video sales. When the Disney company refused to pay, she filed a lawsuit in 1988. After a prolonged legal battle, in 1992, Lee was awarded $2. 3 million for breach of contract, plus $500, 000 for unjust enrichment, $600, 000 for illegal use of Lee's voice and $400, 000 for the use of her name.

I was the same age as the stars of Romeo & Juliet at the time it came out -- my grandparents came to see it. At the time it was thought of as daring but not exploitative because the context of the scene was appropriate for nudity and an accurate representation of Shakespeare's work. What has changed fifty-plus years later is society's attitude. We can't sue people today for what they did fifty years ago because our mores changed -- we can only choose not to do it now.
The Twilight Zone tragedy destroyed John Landis's career.

Really Resident evil didnt make your list Milla jovovich's stunt double lost her arm due to negligence and ended with a bs settlement. Or sophia Stewart suing both Cameron and the wachowskis for supposedly ripping off her book for the matrix and Terminator franchises. Both of these top your list by a long shot

That lawsuit from the actors from Romeo and Juliet is bs.
I mean, the actress defended the love scene but then later decided against it and sued Paramount
There is one reason for this lawsuit and one reason only: money.

A little fact about tattoo. You don't own your tattoo. The artist that tattoo you own the right to it. It is their art on you. That the reason why the artist sue the Hangover movie and not Mike Tyson.
