You start at top with a cap that way you you don't pull hair from other holes.
When you insert hook you keep hook the little hook Part facing left to right then you insert the hook to the left sweep it back to the right slightly and then left a millimeter. Then pull hair through. Start at top part in front hairline. Work way on top section then side but you keep hook facing left to right always use same pressure and same sweeping motion to grab same amount of hair.

I always loved the way my hair turned out using the cap vs foils bc the cap gets way closer to the roots it seems, my hair is already strawberry blonde naturally, but the last time I got foils done, its like oh yeah I like it but then you go home under actual right lighting and you find all these flaws, plus the highlights are too thin at the salon, no matter what you say to them they literally do it their own way, and dont really listen to the customer.

This was super helpful!
I've always gone to a pro for my hair, but for the last few years I've done a lot of bright colours at home, and as much as I love my hairdresser, paying her $200 for service and then going home and throwing some Overtone colour or something over it seems like a waste of her time and my money, so I'm thinking of trying cap highlights at home, since my goal is just to give me a base for brights anyway.

Next time, try center part all the way from forehead to nape, start pulling at top/front and work your way down so you dont have as much thickness in your first few pulls. You can also vary the size of your crochet hook to pull more or less - if you think its a super thick section use a smaller hook and create tension around the spot your pulling with your hand similar to how you do holding a foil to the scalp.

I have done this, but start at the top so you dont pull hair from below. Also, the trick to consistent amount of hair is to do the same size circle with the hook after inserting it. For the loops, as you end up with loops, I take a comb and comb the loops out. I do the curled holes all over and all holes for two to three roles back from face to frame the face.

You have to rinse the bleach off while the cap is still on the head, before removing the cap so it doesnt touch the rest the the hair or mix in the base color when you wash it off. After you finish and have removed the cap etc. you can always, go back in and paint on additional highlights to frame the face it as well.

This is Bobbie Jo begunich, Phil's ol lady and I'm doing this in a few. I love your personality and when someones smiles like you do it really lights my entire house up. If everyone in the world would be friendly, happy, hip and Kool the world would be gorgeous. I think you did good for the first time highlighting. .

I had a great experience with cap highlighting. It only comes out chunky or streaky if the hairstylist doesn't pull enough hair through. It can also come out an orangey off-color if the hair isn't toned or if the wrong products are used. I wish I could find a seasoned hair colorist who still uses it.

I did this cap highlights to my own hair in 1994. and was amazed that it turned out pretty decent! . The only part that I didn't enjoy was having to pull out all the hair strands from each tiny hole. because I'm usually impatient. But for sure this video is encouraging me to do it again for sure

I have medium brown hair and Ive been highlighting it at home for 15 years using the cap method. It usually looks terrible for the first week or two then I get tons of compliments. I used the Revlon frost and glow kit, its blue tinted to get a jump start on toning down the brassy tones.

Umm, aren't you supposed to start pulling from the top and work your way to the bottom? I was always taught that if you start at the bottom and work your way up then you wind up pulling out hairs that I've already been pulled out on the bottom, thus causing more breakage.

Ashes,
Back in high school I had this done. I don't remember why the stylist did cap highlights because foiling was a thing. Anyway, she did a good job and the highlights were correctly spaced and all that. I'd never do it again because it's risky, foils exist, and it hurt!

When my old beautician cap highlighted me for 5 years she never had to put any toner in. she moved out if state. I have had quite a few highlighting sessions wh other beauticians who can't give me the same color and effect on my highlights. And they use toners.
