Hairdresser reacts to people going blonde using only box dye

I used box dye for years. I also went to cosmetology school back in the day.
Here is the scoop. Not all box dues are created equal. Buy a higher end box. Know your brands. Know your color.
When I was younger my hair was dark brown. It also grabbed red tones. I like red tones. I chose colors that had red tones.
I need 20 volume devoted with a good shade and it works. I try not to go more than one possibly two shades lighter because it won't lighten much without bleach. and that wasn't my goal.
I always wanted to brighten, and add red tones and was mostly satisfied.
Major color changes need experienced advice. I'm older now and my dark brown looks more salt and pepper. I have quite a bit of gray.
If I went to color again, I'd go to a salon because gray hair doesn't color the same as dk brown. A good colorist, can work wonders. I'd like to go from salt and pepper to redish brown with red highlights. ( because of how the natural two color is now, it will look highlighted when done. )

I tried going from red to blonde I had used two cream of nature lightest blonde. It made my hair some of my roots yellow and the rest of my hair like a strawberry ginger blonde. Then I had used 3 more box dyes from dark and lovely and made my had more even in tone. But it's still a ginger blonde but I'm not complaining I like the results.

I dyed my hair platinum blonde, like it was white as snow. I used cream Lightner and t18. Well I made the mistake of buying a box dye color to tone my hair after I touched up my roots. worst mistake of my life. All my hair turned yellow (even the icy white part) and I had to bleach it again. Don't do it guys, just get a toner lol.

I only dye my hair dark brown. Last time I went to the salon and the lady said, Oh let's do it again, I missed a few hairs right here. Man. You are not supposed to do it again right away. Next time I did it on my own, told my mom I did it at the salon. And she said, Oh they did a much better job than last time.

It makes me so mad that people keep starting at the roots even when buying box dye because the instructions in it literally tell you that you should not start with the roots like it's not the best thing to use at all yet they STILL give you the right instructions & u chose not to follow it

The permanent color is going to fry her hair with the 40 volume that they use because box colors are a one size fits all fox so whether youre black hair or blonde hair is meant to work for everyone but it doesnt unfortunately. She should just stick with the toner this is gonna be a mess

It takes me so long to get that, with multiple processes, and then A LOT of maintenance!
She shouldve been jumping for joy.
That brand she used, also makes BlondeMe, which is amazing and suuuuuper expensive.
10/10? For at home, box dye? 20/10 girl.

I bleached my hair tonight (for about the 7th time in my life) and was trying to avoid my roots but then I accidentally got bleach on some of my them, so I decided to go all in to avoid patches and when I saw the end result my first thought was you talking about hot roots

brad mondo 2: 18 it says 30V on the bottle. Most of the box dye bleach are 30V to give the desired lift the box images show. However yes it would be cheaper to purchase bleach and developer separately to have a larger amount and know the quality of the brands

Oh man the second girl with the English accent got my real hair color that's why it's so much easier for me to lighten it with just lemon juice I guess I'm lucky why would she mess that up I love their accent over there though

I started ordering the bleach and developer online but there was never a beauty supply store anywhere near where I live except for actual cosmetology licensed beauticians, that may be why a lot of people use box dye

I know that Brad hates box Bleach, but in some countries developers and lightner powders aren't so available, unless you buy them from profesional store, which is ussually not possibile without licence.

I put coconut oil in my hair and leave it in a few days before I bleach to make sure my hair is nice and greasy and moisturized. After that i found I have less damage done to my hair and scalp.

Exactly Brad! Thats exactly what I was gonna say. Some of these box dyes havent been bad. I think a lot people like to use box dyes cuz they think its safer for some reason. Love you Brad
