The reason so many people use box dye is because not everyone has a Sally's near. Lol. All they have is a Dollar General & maybe a Walmart. Sally's is wayyyyy off somewhere in the city & a lot of us live in a town that has like a gas station, a library & A single stoplight. Walmart is 40 mins from me. Sally's? Over 2 hours. There IS a beauty supply store 40 mins away but, if you're not a licensed beautician/hair dresser, they wont sell you anything. I tried once. Walked around the store for an HOUR finding the perfect color, got to the counter & they couldnt sell to me because I wasn't licensed. Annoying! But- THAT'S why a lot of people use box dye. Sometimes, you just gotta go with what'cha got.

I used Manic Panic Vampire Red for like five years on top of my natural black and early grey, and it was vibrant af, blood-red highlights and bright red streaks, loved it. I did the same thing recently with Splat's Midnight Indigo, so now it's basically the same but with an absurdly bright ultramarine tone instead. I love semi and demipermanent colors; they are so fun. Unless someday I go totally silver and decide it would be fun to rock it, I will never go back to purely natural hair. Life is too short and I finally decided I am too vibrant to blend in.
If you think the same way about yourself, try it and see how it makes you feel! I swear, it's addictive.

Yeah I did that as well what the 2nd girl did, although the directions said it to use it on bleached hair. Well, it lasted for like 2 weeks. I looooved the color so I decided f it, I'll keep the color and dye it every 2 weeks. So I did my roots every 4 weeks and red every 2 weeks. That went on for like 6 month and then my hair said nope, no more. I had to cut it from under shoulder blades to a crisp short bob; ( But I learned my lesson and never did that again (ok I did, but the red was then Henna and it was just fine)

Hi Brad! So I have never dyed my hair before, ever, and i would like to dye my long (and curly ends) dirty blonde/dark blonde hair to red/magenta red - what should I do? How should I do it? Should I do it at home? I was recommended Loreal Hicolor Red Hot and Hicolor Hilights Magenta for permanence. Does this seem like the right way to go? Thank you for response if you see this!

Hiss I hate even going down the box dye aisle at the store to get somewhere else, because I have PTSD about using it when I was in high school and I had literally Creamsicle colored hair for prom and graduation pictures: ( after that I always go to my hair stylist friends!

Man my hair REFUSES to let go of red hair dye. I put semi permanent bright red dye in my hair like a year ago the type that washes out in 30 washes yeah no. It's definitely faded but you can still clearly see it in my hair xD

I think with the first girl it turned out even because the top was darker and the bottom was more porous. So the top turned out darker because the base was darker and the bottom turned out dark because it was porous.

I'm debating whether to dye my hair red again or black from salt and pepper. I have both hair colors in my bathroom -it's just deciding which color to use! My husband likes my hair either color, though.
