Pro hairdresser tries the viral tiktok wet to dry flat iron fatsardine: ok yall I have a hair crisis. i washed my hair, and I have straight hair (my family has mainly curly but I have straight, and sometimes my hair just randomly turns curly but then straight when I brush it, I decided to use this hairspray for natural curls (its my sisters) because I desperately wanted curly hair so I put it on. I crunched my hair to make it fluff a bit and dried it, and now its a bit curly, but holy shit is it fluffy. And the texture of my hair now feels weird. My hair isnt soft like it was before. Its so crusty and it hurts to brush it now. When I dig my fingers through my hair (the pain) this weird powdery feeling comes on my fingers. I have no clue what I just did. And I have school tomorrow. Yikes.

I did. Not know you're not suppose to straighten your hair with your flat iron. Me and my mom are not hair stylists or anything. That being said, my hair is curly and when my mom helps me straighten my hair I always do wet my hair first and she does flat iron my hair there doesn't ever seem to be any damage to it. I don't straighten my hair often though, like once or twice every few years so perhaps that's why. There is also a hair product she uses that makes my hair look a bit darker and shiny though we don't always use jt

. having flash backs to middle and high school flat ironing my wet hair everyday and wondering why it was so frizzy and dead, why my natural curls seemed to be falling more and more until I no longer had ringlet tight spiral curls, but instead wavy hair with frizz that stood straight out from the sides of my head I couldn't even run my fingers through my hair when it was straight it was so fried.
Edit: I get using steam on the hair but I think its better on dry hair not soaking it and heating the hair boiling the water inside

I always dry my hair naturally. I never use blow dryers. I never understand how people think its okay to apply heat to your wet hair when that is the weakest stage of your hair. It's at its most vulnerable and that's why you also shouldn't really brush your hair either while it's wet. Even if there is a hair iron that claims it can be applied to wet hair does not mean it's safe! Heat to wet hair is always bad. It's common sense. I remember when years ago people did that and it was so idiotic. And now people are doing it again.

I spent years drying my waist length hair straight from the shower to the flat iron. I don't even a blow dryer because there's no need. My hair never burned off. It never got dry. As a matter of fact, it even helped a little in the winter time with the normal static my hair attracts. The only reason I stopped is because I no longer have a good flat iron and I won't use a cheap one on wet hair so here I am. Air dry my hair then straighten it if I feel like (usually don't anymore)

It's like giving a shock to the hair which is not good cause hair is protein and protein doesn't go well with intense temperature change. Situation like this causes the structure of the protein to change and which is why Brad was feeling the change in texture. In short the hair was damaged permanently. To reverse it you have start over from the begining by cutting out the damaged part or shaving your head. RIP for those who did this. I feel sorry for you.

Wet2Straight by Remington has had one for years. they CLAIM 60% less damage than if you were to dry and then straighten. is this true? who knows, we need Brad to confirm this claim. I personally used it through my high school years (10 years ago) and didn't have my hair breaking and falling off and all that. I didn't pay much attention to my hair either, between the box dye, bleaching, wet straightening, and god knows whatever else I did lol.

I use the garnier hair shampoo and conditioner and hair mask and OH MY when its on sale I stock up so fast if anyone has damaged hair I HIGHLY advise using it! Since using it my hair has felt amazing and so soft and shiny no matter how often I straighten it. They also have a bunch of different types so one for damaged hair, thin hair, curly hair and to revive hair! I hope this helps

I have the same product from a different brand. When they sold it to me they said that, because its completely ceramic and no metal is in the straightener comb, it actually moisturizes the hair along with drying and straightening and that's why the hair makes the steam (this is when used on dry hair. I haven't used it on wet hair yet, so i might have to try it honestly.

Lord this reminds me of having a wet 2 straight when I was like 15, and my mom coming in while I was using it and seeing the steam pouring from it and hearing my hair sizzle and saying she doesn't think it's a good idea. It's fine mom. It'll be fine. It was not fine. And I kept doing it for like 2 years! My hair never fell out, but it was definitely not nice.

You should review the Steampod - it's basically what you were describing towards the end there but you use it on dry hair. It uses steam to straighten the hair like a steam iron you'd use on your clothes.
It's supposed to be less damaging and has great reviews but some people don't get on with it!

This is SO. BAD. FOR. THE. HAIR. You're basically shattering the cuticle and compromising the cortex. If you have a curl pattern, wave it goodbye. It's not gonna bounce back from this, even if you already straighten from time to time. Your curls will be wrecked.

I don't care what the claims the tool makes, are water and electricity are not friends. I would not try this just out of the fear that I might barbecue myself. Zap zap zap! Even if this the is proven safe for other people on that klutz that would get barbecued.

I use a straightener regularly that is marketed as wet/dry. I NEVER use it on my hair when its wet, because once there was a damp piece and it made that same sizzle sound - terrified me, and that was damp, almost dry hair, not properly wet.

I'm old enough to remember when damp-do-dry stylers were a thing in the 90's. They went the way of the dodo exactly because of this/what you experienced. You can't bevel the ends because the iron sets the hair in place.
