Hairdresser Reacts To Relaxers Gone Horribly Wrong Doug: I feel these clips. I went bald from chemotherapy at 30. I was told I needed chemotherapy and signed papers and they started immediately I was so sick. This was within 10-15 minutes of my diagnosis. When my hair started coming out in clumps if I scratched at my scalp I wanted it shaved. I waited 10 days and kept asking. Nurses couldn't do it because they had to use disposable clippers and were out, so my partner went and bought new plug in clippers and a big garbage bag. Cut a hole in bag to fit head and catch hair and he started clipping. I knew it was coming and it was still the most emotional I was, even after having been on life support, spleen removal, 2 months of nobody being able to diagnose me, and being told I was going to die in the hospital, and that was it. It was probably overwhelming joy that I could control something in my life again but I get how emotional she was - nothing prepares you for it if it isn't something you truly want, even when you know it's coming

My mom taught me how to relax my hair so I have not run into any issues like this, I always part my hair sometimes even a day before(If you are parting right before try using your hands to avoid scratching yourself with the comb. Don't scratch your scalp the night before and definitely not on relaxer day. I put Vaseline/Petroleum jelly on my hairline, ears, and scalp(This helps since the relaxer is not supposed to be on your scalp. I also never dye or bleach my hair also never overlap the relaxer I only touch up the new growth since my ends are normally still straight. Don't lather relaxer it's not supposed to be on your skin/scalp and you will just be pulling around weakened hair. Another important tip is read the instructions it always tells you to do a test strand so if its your first time please test it, also wear gloves relaxer is not supposed to be on the skin and if you feel any burning wash it out right away. When washing make sure that relaxer is completely out of your hair at least use neutralizer shampoo 3 times. I also condition at least 2 times, then deep condition with protein treatment. If you are too lazy to take precautions go to a stylist that will do that for you and make sure that stylist knows how to handle relaxer and black hair. Since I grew up getting relaxers I was freaking out watching these. I am not a stylist myself so I can't guarantee what works for me will work for others but precautions are a safe bet.

unfortunately, I learned this lesson the hard way:
I had been relaxing my hair for years, but in 2001, I decided to bleach my hair platinum blonde because I was going to a concert and I wanted to do something different with my hair. the bleaching process went perfectly and I got the snow white color I wanted. two weeks later, I dyed my hair jet black because I was tired of the blonde. that went well, too.
the problem came in when I decided to relax my hair again about a month later, completely forgetting that I d already bleached it. my hair literally came out in handfuls; so much so that I had to go to my BIL and have him shave my head.
NEVER AGAIN will I make that mistake!

As a girl who's currently dealing with hair thinning/loss (my hormones are outta whack but my doctor hasn't figured out why yet, woohoo) These videos physically HURT. I go through hell and back to keep as much on my head as possible, but to see someone think they'll be fine and they end up having their hair melt off. ouch
Like. When I see my hair fall out, I'm upset ofc, but I'm also expecting it. It doesn't shock my anymore. These ladies were NOT expecting to be bald or shaved down when they woke up that morning.
I thought bleach fails were bad. I never cringed that hard. Today was. different

As a black girl who grew up getting my hair relaxed, my question is did they not have mamas or aunties to help them out? Because good lord, I don't think a single one of them did anything right. Like, not a single step, it was painful to watch.
At the same time, though, how do you not follow a single direction and expect things to turn out well? Hopefully, they learn to either leave the creamy crack alone or they ask someone who knows what they're doing.

Normally I am the most empathetic person on the planet. But with people like this, it's just hard for me to feel bad because they have all of the information in the world at their fingertips if they just Took a little bit of time to do some research, but instead they just assume that they can get supermodel results in their bathroom for 10 at Walmart. If you wanna leave your life that way, these are the kind of results you're going to get.

Thank you so much Brad, you were my inspiration to become a hairdresser, just the way you I've been watching your videos for years and I just want to thank you for making me feel better everyday, you are just a lovely person and have helped so many people grow and learn about hair and really love hairdressing and you have inspired so many people. Thank you for always brightening up the internet with your personality xD

I used to relax my hair when I was a kid (like 10 years old) and the amount of scalp burns I got from the process was unreal. I also went to a professional. I stopped at 20 due to my hair falling out from an unrelated matter.
Now I go for a good blowout and keratin if needed. My frizzy Latina hair loves me now.
Note: My hair has also recovered from falling out and is waist length now.

I don t mean to throw salt on a wound, but did the last woman fall asleep? Did she not set a timer? Like how long did she think a relaxer was supposed to sit on her head? Because that looks like she was chillin for at least an hour before she bothered to even check on it. You buy a box of strong chemicals with instructions and completely disregard them. I don t get it.

The last girl. Girl that's my hair everyday when I brush it. I went from having thick blonde hair to thin hair in less than a year. I'm on meds that make me lose my hair and teeth. So that's my everyday struggle. Watching my brushes and combs take my hair away. I hate it. Hopefully I can save money to order nice clip ins. Cause my hair is a decent length.

Brad, thank you for enduring chills and for feeling bad for the women in the video. I'm sure this video and the tips you gave throughout will help a lot of people not destroy their hair. Focus on the idea that their hair will grow back and they now have an opportunity to treat their hair well so it can grow back and be even more healthy than before.

I put a relaxer made for other hair types, on my hair, 3 days after bleaching it twice. in 10th grade and omg. it didn't dry for like 2 days, didn't move, couldn't brush or even comb with an extra wide tooth comb. AND I STILL PUT A FLAT IRON ON IT EVERY DAY! Idk how I didn't go completely bald, but eventually I fixed it some how.

The only positive in these videos in my opinion is that all 3 of them are absolutely gorgeous women and each of them have such a beautiful face shape that a bald head honestly looks incredible. Still heartbreaking though, I know it s just hair and it grows back, but it takes so long and it feels like more than just hair

I once accidentally got a bit of demipermanent color in my mouth (I couldn't open it with my hands)
I totally freaked out nothing happened & it probably was like a drop that I spit out immediately. But now I always have a pair of scissors nearby in case the bottle doesn't open the way it's supposed to

Tia s hair looked like she had some bald spots before she ever started. Give them heck Brad maybe some day people who have not been properly schooled, will just stop! I too am a hair licensed dresser and I just cringe watching some of theses people. And at the same time, I think we ll, it s not my hair, Oh, well.
