I've been to Antico Nuovo a couple years ago. Of course the pasta was amazing but I implore you, if you go, to get whatever fish is on the menu. I had a dry aged branzino that was the best I've ever had. Also a key takeaway is the front of house staff. Well trained and have provide excelent experienced service. They interject at the perfect time as they really pay attention. Not constantly asking how things are but still very caring with a huge attention to detail. Much love to the Antico Nuovo team!

The fact that this place is in a strip mall further reinforces my belief that the best food that you're going to find in this country is going to be in some hole in the wall strip mall or random decrepit looking location.
Because that is certainly been where I have found some of the best food in my life

Ancient Italian Cooking’ - two Mexicans in LA, America. I love Mexicans. Food looks yum too! I think Bonappetit needs to expand now. It’s either LA or NYC imitating European or Asian food and its boring af. Worse, the produce is made in America - agree with me or not the food produce is awful there!

As an Italian, his dishes look legit and tasty but the prices are off the charts. The same dish in Italy would run you $20 dollars tops. I get that it's LA and authentic Italian cuisine is hard to find, but $40 dollars for a main course So much for focusing on cucina povera.

1: 43 - Cooking over burning cardboard is not healthy - it often contains inks, dyes, adhesives, and chemical treatments. It can release toxic fumes, including dioxins and furans, which are harmful to inhale or ingest. Use real wood kindling.

OMG this live fire trend is so played out already. Great, you guys can be more uncomfortable than anyone else in the kitchen and in a much more dangerous atmosphere for the employees, must mean the food's better.

All I could think of while watching this is what an absolutely nightmare it must have been for them to get the permits they needed to operate fully open flame grills in LA
reply

Surprised they have permit to run all those fires. LA/CA is so controlling when it comes to doing business. The restaurant is so inviting I’d love to dine there.

Food is delicious and the chef is nice in real person too. Professional staff. The dishes are small though so it’s nice for a special occasion or date night

$30 or more for a pasta dish Mate, are you joking The nonnas they look up to for inspiration were known, among many things, for being thrifty. This isn't it

I appreciate the many chef's with the attention to detail and care for the craft that Arturo has. It makes these meals worth every penny.

'poor man's cuisine'. Proceeds to charge $38 for pappardelle.
I respect the cooking, but $38 for a bowl of pasta is insanity, even in LA

reply

been here. the staff is EXTREMELY rude. Manager too. If you don't believe me go to their yelp page. all their 1 stars say the same thing.

Next time I'm in LA, I shall try that if I can get a reservation. Looks delicious! Nothing better than a small LOCAL restaurant.
reply

Looks delicious. No ancient in sight though as he isn't the first or the last to make hand made pasta and wood fired food.
reply

Looking at Yelp, people are saying that the food is great, but the service is average to poor. Something to keep in mind I guess.

Funny how when a latino dude cooks Italian food it isn't Cultural appropriation but when a white person cooks Mexican food it is.
