I work for a large supermarket in Australia (Coles) and we always bring out hot cross buns leading up to Easter We often have the traditional flavour (only sultanas, fruit free (just a spiced dough - can be quite popular depending on the store's demographic) and chocolate (cocoa added to the dough with choc chips in place of sultanas. We start baking them from January which causes a fuss with the public since it's right after Christmas but people still buy them so you can't really win haha

I work at a higher end bakery and we have hot cross buns. I personally dont like them because I dont like raisins/currents, but people go crazy over them. We have people pre ordering dozens of them at 4 per bun. I live in California, but many of my customers are from other countries/well traveled.

If you ever want to switch active dry yeast out for instant yeast. just take a bit of the liquid in the recipe, warm it very slightly (or just make sure its room temperature, at least) and mix the yeast into that. Wait until its activated and pour it in with the rest of the liquid.

Hot Cross buns, hot Cross buns One a penny two a penny hot Cross buns would sing it along as a child while Ma made them and I would nibble on the raisins and sultanas. I personally have never made them but this time around I am going to give it a go.

cupcakejemma I think your next Q&A should be people who make your recipes and have things not work out You answer questions when a video first gets posted, but if a video is a few months, or even weeks, old, it's difficult to get help if something goes wrong.

absolutely love this recipe - I followed it to a T and the buns turned out perfectly. The only thing I would change for next time is by making half of the amount of dough for the cross so that I dont have an excess amount of leftovers: )

They're pretty common in Canada around Easter. I used to work in a grocery store bakery and one time I forgot to add the crosses before putting them in the oven. we called them non-denominational spring time rolls.

Ive just made this dough but was too wet for me to put into buns and I was scared to try and continue doing them so Ive had to put in 2 x 2lb loaf tins. How long should I bake these for? Anyone else had this problem?
