I have never made swedish meatballs lika that xD im swedish and we dont tend to have that much ingredients. Its a realy easy thing to do! :) and we dont cook them in the gravy but you can do that, just my family doesnt do that beacuse my mom dont know how to do gravy x) but that was a good idea! :) and over noodles? Yuck! It doesnt sound good x) AND! I have got to tell you! You can do a thing called -frickadeller-, you boil the meatballs insted of frying them, the get soft and grey like colour on them and Its realy good with potato and blackcurrent jelly! Sooooo good!

I'm going to have to try this after I finish my leftover Easter ham. When I was much, much younger I used to like to go to IKEA to look around and eat their Swedish meatballs in their cafeteria. One day, I was trying to decide on an entertainment center that would look good in my apartment so I thought I could snap a few pictures. Two IKEA employees came running down the aisle screaming, -You can't do that here! - So I said, -Really? Okay, SCREW YOU- and walked out. I've never stepped foot in an IKEA again. But now I can make my own Swedish meatballs!

-Panad- is actually the name of the breadcrust/coating on fish, chicken or schnitzels etc: . The verb to that is panera, meaning when putting it on the food. In short - panad goes on the outside of (frying) meat. Thats the swedish meaning anyway. In french i think its a -breadsoup- or something?
Like your recipe- the addition of garlic and nutmeg is nice! Lots of us swedes are crazy for garlic so dont think were all the same haha: D

It's not very traditional, but I bake my meatballs. I use s recipe for Swedish meatballs for the mix but I oil (I use sunflower oil but olive oil works well, too) my hands a bit when I roll them and just put them in a preheated oven (around 200-240C. I turn them when they are browned on the bottom. It is less oily and just as tasty. We eat them with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam, if we have some.

in Sweden we don't use this ''panade'' thingy, we acually buy dried breadcrumbs from the store and add some of that and som cream and eggs. Since the breadcrumbs absorb liquid this is a way better option than panade. I tried your recepie and it didn't taste as good as with the breadcrumbs; )

Next time, try cooking the union and garlic in some butter, then mix it with the meat, then put some cream in the pan, wash the pan with the cream and ad it to the meat. and use some more butter when frying the meatballs. thats how we do it sweden; )

Hilah! Yes horse meat was traditional at a time when that was common throughout Europe. Don't judge. I lived in Sweden as a kid, so your recipe is nice to see. We were always served with the meatballs over rice in school. Easter Blessings ChefMike

thing with ground beef is not to mix it too hard, it doesn't take long to mix everything so please don't use a mixer. It will ruin everything and make it into a paste. Every little bit of beef you can spare is awesome.
