I'd just like to warmly recommend chopped shallots (the leaves/stems/green parts) as a super tasty greenery to add to your smash potats. Also finely chopped leek leaves/stems.
There's a side dish very similar to mashed potats I like to make that's essentially a mediterranean version. You cut the potatoes into medium sized cubes (you could even leave the skin on if you wash it thoroughly) before cooking, and when cooked you season with olive oil and sea salt instead of butter/cream/milk. I should point out you do not actually mash the potatoes; the cooked potato cubes will get a little bit of a mashed effect while you're working the seasoning in. After that I like to add some finely chopped shallot/leek leaves, parsley leaf, or whatever other herb I've got on hand. Any mediterranean herb would probably go nicely in there too! Fresh thyme or rosemary? Why not! I reckon anything that complements the flavour of the potato would be fine as long as it doesn't get too busy.

Hi Hilah, love the video! And, your shirt is very cute. I often make roasted potatoes with horseradish, butter, and lemon juice (and then parsley at the end) and that's awesome so I know your horseradish mash will be, too. I bought a ricer maybe 20 years ago because Martha Stewart said they were great - and she was right. I used it more for draining spinach, though, LOL! Anyway, one tip if you're interested is Barkeeper's Friend. It is very helpful to easily keep the outside and bottom of your pans looking brand new. I also use it on my sink. Take care and keep the vids coming! Happy Thanksgiving!

Yum! Thank you, Hilah. For something completely different. use your ricer to make a cool ice cream dessert. Fake Spaghetti! Softened vanilla ice cream passed through the ricer, strawberry ice cream sauce and either shredded coconut or finely chopped white chocolate for the 'parmesan'. Totally looks like a fake dish of ice cream with sauce and cheese. Hubs and I first had it in Germany from an ice cream truck vendor. Try it out on your kids. No passport needed!

When I was growing up, my mom would add a raw egg to the potatoes while mashing them. It would cook almost instantly from the heat and would add a nice rich flavor. I sometimes like to make -dirty- mashed potatoes where you leave the skins on. This works best using red or some other thin skinned potato. I also like to occasionally add buttermilk instead of milk or cream for a nice tangy flavor. Yum! Can't wait to try the horseradish recipe!

I've been known to eat horseradish right out of the jar. I love the stuff.
I have the old fashioned hand masher, and I'm too much of a cheapskate to buy a ricer. My Dad used to do his mashed potatoes in the big stand mixer, and he'd flog the immortal shit out of them. With all the butter and cream he whipped into them, they were probably dangerous, but they sure were good.
Three great looking recipes!

I was pulling my studio headphones from my ear when you said -when you peel a potato- and I thought you said -when you kill a potato. - At first I thought it was weird but then remembered I was watching Hilah and literally anything is possible. -

we like to mash up some turnip or Carrots to mix in with the mashed potatoes, it makes the mash delicious, earthy and a little bit sweet in my opinion. English or dijon mustard mashed potatoez is also a favourite at my house.

That was so fun! And I always love when you do the basics- For someone who's technical mind is off in other subject matter- This helps reduce the anxiety immediately!

This is perfect timing! I knew I wanted to make mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving, but I wasn't sure what kind. I'm thinking jalapeno cheese sounds like a winner!

Oh my god. Horseradish mashed potatoes! How have I never thought of this. I've recently become kind of obsessed with horseradish for some reason. It's so good
