A classic burger is a thing of beauty. For this episode of The Meat Show, host Nick Solares goes back in time (figuratively) to taste history at White Rose, a thimble-sized New Jersey diner where Americana practically oozes from the walls

All right. I'm a veteran of this location since '68, my Dad worked on Sherman Street. The original was indeed smashed, but that's where the true origin veers. The place was staffed by crew-cut-wearin' veterans from the South, as was White Diamond. There was no need to feed philosophy because the only industrial zone was E. Elizabeth Ave. and Penn which fronted the railroad, the rest of the area on that side of the tracks is residential. Onions were standard, the choices being raw if you asked or none. Vegetables (lettuce & tomato) and mayo were extra money and made it a California Burger. We never even heard of anyone putting mustard on a burger. (Interestingly, they didn't yet serve grits)Simply, it was a great burger joint and I'm damned glad it remains so. But, Kenny's Luncheonette in Elizabeth was better: Ken served burgers on genuine Jewish hard rolls from Village Bakery in Linden. He'd steam the split roll over the meat, lest the flavor of the vapors be lost. Sheer gastronomic bliss for gormandizers of fine peasant food.

i think part of the reason why this show irritates me is meat is so much more than burgers and dry aged steaks. Meat can be stews, can be roasts, can be stir fried, and most importantly, can be incorporated with vegetables and still be the star dish. Also 90% of the foods he features are old timey american dishes, the hot dogs, burgers, steaks. Does this guy not realize its 2017 and theres so much more amazing meat dishes to be had? After a while you gotta realize that burgers can only taste so different. TL: DR white dude just likes to play with his white meat and see how gnarly his white meat gets dry aged.

This is the quintessential platonic ideal of an egalitarian working class food, profound and substantial due to the concussive maillard reaction turning it into the darkest mahogany hence it being quite apt, yet lacking the minerally and tangy flavour that hits you once you enter the dry age room or taste the spinalis dorsi of the smith and wollensky prime rib or joe juniors cheeseburger from which you detect a smell of blue cheese like that of peter lugers fossil like steaks. Muchas gracias

I grew up in Garwood, New Jersey, just a few short miles from White Rose. I can vouch, White Rose's burgess, fries and milkshakes are simply amazing! There's another similar burger joint in Clark, NJ where I went to high school that's amazing as well. Both White Rose and White Diamond are worth the trip!

To all the absolutely PERECT PEOPLE castings stones. I highly doubt any of YOU have anything _unblemished_ in your past. I support the host. He has been a joy to watch and had been my favorite entertainer. I care NOT about his past because he had OBVIOUSLY changed.

WHITE ROSE IS SO GOOD. There are only 3 (I think) and there was one a few minutes away from the county college I started at. I ate there WAY too much. And it's not just their burgers, everything is freaking great. Now I gotta go back to White Rose soon.

The younger generation doesn't want to do it because it no easy work? You're making the most basic, bland, boring foods. The younger generations have fresh ideas for foods that take a HELL of a lot more effort and skill than this shit does

In this era of luxury or gourmet superthick burgers with cheeses and toppings you can't pronounce (which I'm not knocking because I like them too, it is refreshing to see good old fashioned simple burgers still being made.

This guy overanalyzes the piss out of plain simple food that happens to taste good. This isn't iron fvcking chef, come up with some genuine dialogue instead of sounding like the twat who sniffs his own farts in a wine glass.
