On today's episode of Dining on a Dime, Lucas is joined by Katie Parla, to Largo: My god, these guys describe basic run-of-the mill recipes like they are exotic delicacies. Cacio and pepe is cheaper than ramen - and easier to make. What are you doing with this fetishistic food glamorizing, go cook it. Especially italian cuisine - they are simple tehniques, fundamental ingredients - it's meant to be easy to do so you focus on the experience of dining and togetherness around the sunday family dinner table. This video was a worse representation of italian cooking than Jersey shore. At least they had the main ideea right. And let's not get into how you fetishized the chef - the only actual italian got reduced by the director and editor to a italian caricature that says a lot of cookie things about home cooking. How self indulgent do you have to be to make a piece about food and focus it on what it means to you?

I love Cacio e Pepe! It is so simple and quick to prepare. And it is also very inexpensive to make so I grit my teeth at the mention that it could cost as much as 30 or even 12! Homemade it's maybe 0. 20 for 100g of Barilla dried spaghetti and another 0. 80 for the cheese and high quality pepper. So 1 per portion food cost. Get busy folks learn to make it and impress your friends and spend the rest of the money on a decent bottle of wine!

Katie Parla is my favorite Rome insight! I read her blog before visiting Rome back in 2014 and I wished I had enough time during my visit to eat at this restaurant. I have major regrets now seeing how amazing those pastas look. Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara are seriously my favorite pasta dishes ever. Can't really find good affordable versions of it back here in the states.

Quality presentation. Lucas is quite probably the best host Ive seen on youtube, an absolute natural. How can you not like the guy. I consider I must visit Rome based on this one video. Such is its worth. That pasta has my name on it. Damn.

So what's he doing after you see him separating the egg for the carbonara dish? Looks like he might have whipped/mixed the cheese and egg yolk together instead of adding them separately?

Lucas is such a great interviewer. He listens attentively to his guests and appreciates their knowledge and input about any and all types of regional cuisine.

I felt sick when he showed the stomach like how someone can eat this? So many different textures I would literally throw up if this touched my tongue
