At Onigiri Bongo in Japan, Yumiko Ukon and her late husband have popularized non-traditional onigiri flavors of the stuffed rice snack since 1960. Now the shop makes 1, 500 rice balls a day in 55 flavors including mayonnaise and tuna, curry and beef tendon stew, and salmon roe and takana. The different flavors have become so popular that customers wait up to five hours in line to try them

I really love when old people are not afraid of change, as she said that Bongo has changed from the past 60 years. as we know that the Japanese are all about preserving culture, sometimes old people are afraid of trying or moving along the new era where things and food are changing too. sometimes they will stick to the same things as they do not want to spoil the tradition even though they know things will not sell well. so I have huge respect for her as she knows how to keep it going and moving along with the new era where the food and taste keep changing according to time.

Dear auntie, if only you have your hand on meat and chicken serunding and even the coconut serunding it would increase your flavour to include ones from Malaysia, you can also include a reduced down laksa soup that is usually eaten with rice noodles or spaghetti noodles. Even fully reduced chicken or meat rendang might be phenomenal.

Still japan not using gloves during pandemic. this is how it spreads. Doesnt matter how clean you are its inside you. if you have it then you are responsible for everyone getting sick or even dying.

During this outbreak, everyone need some one who always cheer up and smile like her. Too bad he is probably closing down during this pandemic. Hope she can bounce her business back after this.

I used to live around the area and went there often. I've been there when her husband still around too. The onigiri there is really good, and the size is generous as well.

She's the Onigiri Mama. You can tell where the inspiration came for the original design for Cooking Mama, in her humility, charm and enthusiasm to serve. It's cute as heck.

When she mentioned that she wanted to dedicate her life to onigiri, she basically is dedicating her life to her late husband. I'm not crying, you are.
