In the premiere episode of 'Price Points', Epicurious challenged cheese expert and noted author Liz Thorpe to guess which one of two cheeses was more expensive. Liz breaks down cheap vs expensive parmesan cheese, goat cheese, gruyre cheese, feta cheese, and blue cheese. For each round of cheap cheese vs expensive cheese, Liz visually analyzed, smelled, then executed a taste test before guessing which cheese cost more. Once the prices were revealed, Thorpe explained why a specific cheese making process costs more and dives into the specifics of how to make the different cheeses

All right, who cut the cheese, she knew her stuff, some of the cheaper cheeses were expensive, my dream is to fly to France, sit where the Eiffel tower is in the background and drink wine from a box and spray cheese from can onto a Ritz cracker while my picture is taken, how many French would die from dees shoock, an updated american in paris

This video in a nutshell: a well-intentioned, informative-ish lesson in some cheeses. The failure is in the last sampling. She never reveals the exact name of the cheese. There are many types of bleue cheese. My guess is the grape leaf wrapped cheese is a type of Gorgonzolabut again, she never said.

I think it would be pretty cool to see an expert compare two different thingslike, have Liz compare a parmegiano-reggiano to like, a cheddar, and talk about the difference between them and figure out whats more expensive across the kinds.

About the last cheese which was made by the one farm in the world, I actually live very near where they make that. Its in Cornwall in the uk and its a style of cheese which involves wrapping it in stinging nettles

The goat cheese was actually about 3 times more expensive per ounce (4 per 4oz = 1 per 1oz vs 20 per 6oz 3, 33 per 1oz, not 5.
It was 5 times as expensive per wheel, but not by weight.

Very surprised she said that she buys the American version as she doesn't notice the difference, other than on salads. Having said that, I like plenty of less expensive cheeses, too: -)

Comedy skit Idea An expert cheese taster but lactose intolerant, and over the skit, endures the gut wrenching pain but still keeps the poise but visibly in diarrhoea state.

Is there a reason she's all secretive as to where the final leaf wrapped cheese originates from? I'm guessing France. After Googling. Nope, it's California.
reply

I can tell by the look of cheese most of the time which is expensive and not, because it is basic knowledge that aged cheese is the best cheese
