Learn how to make a Chicken la King Recipe Janice Leighton: You do what you gotta do. lol. I just adore the way you chat along to those of us watching during your recipe demonstrations. Yours are amongst some of the best Ive seen, the food of course is good (and being from the UK Id never thought of American food being good, Id thought more of it being fast food. Id seen some American recipes where everything came out of a can or a jar) but your slight comedic effect is just so entertaining. I sometimes whizz on with recipes and find myself muttering under my breath just get ON with it will you but am happy to watch the whole of yours as you manage to entertain whilst still getting right down to the bones of it if you catch my drift. Anyway Chef John. Im impressed. and it takes a lot to impress me. Can I ask, do you always speak in this style, the uplift at the end of a sentence and the sing song quality? Or is it just when you are filming /cooking. it doesnt grate as I had thought it would. Im just curious. Thanks for some splendid recipes and making it so easy peasy too

My mom is one of those women who doesn't have a lot of time to cook, so as a kid I never had chicken a la king. I DID, however, have turkey a la king, which was what my mom made 3-4 days after thanksgiving when everybody got tired of eating turkey sandwiches for dinner every night. She made it with condensed cream of mushroom soup, and served it on toast. I'm sure your method is better for you health and taste-wise, but that's a cherished childhood memory of mine. Thanks, Chef John

I do realy like your videos but i think its funny how americans take classic european food and give it an own name and say its of there classics Its called fricassee in europe - a form of ragout - and is normaly made with aspargus, mushrooms, peas & capers But i have to say i like the way with the peppers as a more kids version (because capers & aspargus arent that kids choice vegies) but it definatly looks tasty

Haha love the recipe and video as always. You made me laugh at the end about how it's not that heavy. So the exercise system you're talking about is called pilates, and that's basically just when you work out and control your movements through the strenuous bits, rather than moving quickly. The way you pronounced it sounded almost like pleiades, which is a star system

Chef John, you're getting better with the camera, but there's room for improvement. Many shots were underexposed (i. e. quite dark) and in general the exposure varied wildly from shot to shot. It seems you resorted to using manual focus, now the next thing is to lock in your exposure so it remains consistent throughout these shots. Keep up the good work

Chicken a la King (or what we called it) is such a comfort food for me. We often had it when I was a kid. But I would say that our family version was more of a chicken a la kitchen sink as we used it to use up not just chicken but any veggies we had in the house. Sometimes we even added cheese because, well American and, well cheese.

Oh, and I still don't get that leftover chicken thing. Like, when has that ever occurred? I mean, say you make fried chicken and your SO is away, and they didn't know you made fried chicken, are you not going to eat it all? We have all been that Gahan Wilson comic on the porch next to the KFC at one time or another.

Last time I ve made this recipe I did not have the cooked chicken breast and I was just lazy. so I tried something new and started with raw breast on the batter and from there it was pretty much the same except the flour I used was wholemeal (because of my girlfriend. Anyhow, it was just as good. Thanks

sir, you are my hero. I haven't had chicken a la king in years and what I had years ago was simply something you boiled in a bag and put on toast. Never had it home or even restaurant made. This tastes exactly as I expected and it makes me so happy to have this dish again and for the first time.

Fun fact; all kitchens & bathrooms are designed to have a slight slope, nothing major that anyone can feel but its there so water can automatically go straight to the drain from all the points in the space, it's not just your kitchen or the city it's just architecture.
