Chef John. I have a request. My mother made this type of bar cookie. It was the base of oatmeal, brown sugar, honey, butter and I can't remember the other ingredients. I think there was a little either baking powder of soda in the mix. It was a crumbly mix and she patted it in the pan then smeared with a fruit filling. Then that was topped off with another layer of the cookie base. She just called them bar cookies. She passed in 2008 so the recipe died with her. She never wrote it down: ( I've tried recipes from the internet but they just aren't hers. We owned a bakery back then and the recipe was in the sweets master file but my brother took over the bakery. When he passed, I have no idea where the file went. I have copies of the bread and roll master file. Her Honey Bran Muffins were to die for good and I haven't been able to make any from scratch that were as moist as hers. The only thing that is exact is the Martha White Honey Bran Muffin Mix.

Chef John, you are literally the person who successfully taught me how to cook when all my family and friends had given up on me I used to survive on microwave meals because I would even screw up boiling pasta or frying an egg, now I'm serving up delicious meals for everyone and they're all like Who are you. So I just wanted to say, again, thank you so much for your videos. I've been following for years, drooling over the food porn, but only recently started actually attempting your recipes, and I'm so glad that I can now Happy holidays

Ps. Another food wish: is Jelly. My Grandma used to make this smooth jelly from berry juice, it didnt have the clumps of a jam it was a jelly. and just so good my whole family went nuts for it around the holidays. Its sort of her famous jelly. Unfortunately she is so old, she stopped making it, and Ive asked, she doesnt even really remember how she used to make it: P lol. So. Id like to learn on my own just how to make basic jelly, so that I can customize it with different berries or juices and bring back Grannys Jelly to my fam.

I made these today The dough cracked a bit, but I'm sure that's because of something I did -- I don't think I incorporated the flour and butter mixture together well enough. because I got tired of stirring. That's my fault for pulling the butter straight from the freezer. :P (Also, the fact that I used bread flour instead of all-purpose flour probably didn't help)Nevertheless, the cookies turned out fantastically tasty -- even with ordinary storebought grape jelly I recommend this recipe and will try to make them again.

Have to try these. LIKE your way of instructing. Wondering how I can fill with chocolate instead of a jam. Thinking I could micro chocolate baking chips and put in well of cookie. hoping anyway. Will be sending late Christmas gift to friend with a tin of my homemade Biscotti and some of your cookies here with chocolate centers since she isn't into the fruit. Haven't had GOOD thumbprint cookies in yeeeeears. Store bought is Ugh THANKS SO MUCH Do you make Biscotti?

Hi Chef John, my food wish is. these steamed egg custard sweet buns that I get at a local dim sum spot. I wish I could make them. The custard is this deep yellow color, & not-too-sweet. Theyre especially amazing when theyre fresh & still hot from steaming. You could pair them with any drink but for me so as not to overpower their simplicity i like to have them just with tea.

These turned out really good and they were easy to make. Raspberry and Blackberry were favorites in our house. The kids liked all of them. Can anyone tell me what size scoop you used? Mine was a tad larger. I have three sizes. If you could measure the circle of the mouth of the scoop for me I would appreciate it. Would like to buy a smaller one but not to small.

I have been watching Food Wishes recipes and I was so impressed that it was acctualy about the food and not the chef, but I became curious as to who is this funny chef behind all these wonderful recipes. So I finally found a video that had the chef in it. I was not disapointed. You are just as delightfull as you sound. Thank you for your great and so easy recipes.
