The MSG hate in the west is a GENUINE example of weird racism. The idea that it's unhealthy is a myth that was started by a New York food critic in the 1960s who was so racist against Asian people that he claimed he got a headache every time he ate at Asian restaurants and decided that this mysterious MSG that Chinese people used was to blame for making him sick. Since then there's been a prevailing myth/mass hysteria about MSG that it's unhealthy, makes you sick or gives you all kinds of symptoms. i highly doubt gordon reads his comments but i wanna put this here just in case, MSG (monosodiumglutimate) is just a falvour enhancer its bascially pure umami (the 6th taste) and all of the studies that have ever been done on it shows htat its either perfectly healthy or not that bad. the reason alot of people see it as unhealthy is becasue of racism in america back when chinese foods were first being introduced and people used msg as a reason to saydont eat in their resturants its bad for you i understand why youre scared of it as yes people today still think its bad for you but please be at ease: ) its not anyworse for you then a steak

People did know that because after chinese people visit western countries many people ate from chinese shops and and western restaurant owners didn't like it. And so they make stories that msg is bad for you.
And other wise japanse and honkong people which has highest average life span are using and found msg

The FACT that Gordon self-admitted to learning more about asian cuisine just to get his Uncle title back shows how much he cares about his art. Even after all the years he has learned about cooking, he knows he still has to learn more. I am in awe at this man. Truly deserving of his success.

Love this so much. Way to retake the crown, Chef!
I remember awhile ago Gordon talking about how some chefs take losing a star and taking it far too harshly. But he spoke about picking yourself backup, learning, and doing better the next time. Glad to see him practice what he preaches!

MSG is perfectly safe. There has never been a study corroborating negative health outcomes with MSG. What is bad is excessive sodium. It's irresponsible to insist that MSG is bad for you when there is no data to back that up.
