The recipe is here! Ingredients: 2 tbs toasted black sesame seeds 3 tbs sweet rice flour 1 cup water ts salt for garnish: a dried jujube with the pit taken removed a few pumpkin seeds Directions: Toast sesame seeds Put the black sesame seeds into a strainer and scrub them under running water. Drain the seeds and put them in a thick bottomed pan or pot. Stir with a wooden spoon over medium high heat for a few minutes. When the sesame seeds start popping, lower the heat. Keep stirring until they're crispy. Make porridge Blend the toasted black sesame seeds with cup of water for 1 minute until the mixture is smooth. Add 1 cup of water to the mix and blend it again for another minute. Put 3 tbs of sweet rice flour into a thick bottomed pot. Mix in the sesame mixture with a wooden spoon. Bring to a boil. Keep stirring over medium high heat for about 2 to 3 minutes until it bubbles. Lower the heat to a simmer. Keep stirring for 3 to 5 minutes. The porridge will thin out a little and become shiny. Add ts salt and mix it well. Transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with a jujube and pumpkin seeds (or pine nuts) and serve warm.

Maangchi, growing up, I had loved black sesame seed porridge. I was so excited to see your video and decided to give it a try. I bought a large bag of black sesame seeds (Samhak brand) from Hmart, washed and roasted them as shown in the video. For some reason, there is a metallic taste to the sesame seeds I cannot get rid of. Do you why this is the case? Thank you so much. I love all your videos!

I tried this recipe this morning and honestly it was not my favorite, after only a couple spoonfuls it hurt my stomach and it kind of tasted like dirt. No disrespect Maangchi =( I don't know if it had something to do with I didn't use ALL black sesame seeds or what (had a half n half mixture. I tried added 2 tablespoons of sugar but that didn't help either.

This looks really good and simple: ) Only big issue is half a teaspoon of salt in one meal for one person is A LOT of sodium. You're only supposed to have no more than 1 teaspoon of salt a day, and other ingredients already supply some of that sodium. When I make recipes, I just leave out any added salt.

I love how almost every time I watch one of your episodes i can relate to the recipe from one from my culture. We make many black sesame blends for when recovering or for energy boost. And of course you're getting me addicted to korean food. Lovve you maangchi.

All this is is black tahini sauce with rice flour not a real congee r porridge. It would be quicker to buy black tahini, add water, simmer and add rice flour, but still no good. It would be better to make rice porridge and add black tahini.

This is delicious I just made this eating it now! I would skip the salt though as it tastes a little bitter. Western palates will probably add sugar I did and sweet and delicious! Thank you Maangchi!

I usually make porridge with chicken stock to add flavor. Can I replace the water here with something else to add? Do you have suggestions?

Chinese people have a dessert soup like this but maybe with more sesame and sugar. This looks so good. I'm looking forward to making this soon
