Today I am making a simple pot of pinto beans or frijoles de la olla. This is a recipe for boiled beans in a pot that can be divided and saved later or served in a bowl or along side your favorite meal. NanaAW: Beans was the first thing I learned to cook as a child. After coming home from elementary school, it was my job to put on the beans. I had to be taught thise steps: cleaning, rinsing, soaking, then cooking. Both parents worked. Thanks for sharing this. We don't realize some folks did not grow up Mexican and never cooked a pot of pinto beans!

I was just wondering if you or parents or grandparents are from Mexico, i ve been cooking since I was 6yrs old and am 60 now. I have never seen anyone make pinto beans or prepare them the way you did in your video, beans coming out of bag have to be sorted out to get rocks and broken beans before you add water. It took you almost 3 hrs to make a pot when it should only take 1hr, the flavor for your beans comes from adding a small slab of bacon fat, garlic and just a touch of taco seasoning. I am Tex-Mex and my mom and grandparents have all made there beans the same way. I hope you don t take this as criticism because everybody cooks differently if you take it offensively then I don t know what to tell you Because Mexicans and Tex- Mexicans cook completely different.

Oh my gosh please pick through your beans. I have only ever done it one other time before last night. Hence the reason why I m here watching your video. I am making beans today to have chili and put in the freezer. Well the one time I did it I found a rock. So then I have just fast eyeballed the beans. Well last night my husband was sitting there so I said well let me get these three bags of beans. I will thoroughly go through them. They were Publix pinto beans. I found two rocks and a lucky stone. Yes a lucky stone that looks in color almost like a pinto bean. Thank God the shape was like half of a broke pinto bean or I wouldn t even have caught that one. I could not believe it. Especially from Publix in their brand?

My mom cooked pinto beans often. She never soaked them. When I began cooking for myself, I tried soaking the pinto beans overnight. In my opinion the soaking removed all the flavor from the beans. I poured them out and never soaked a pot of beans again. I cooked a pot of beans ( unsoaked) last week and made a pan of homemade cornbread. The best meal ever! I love all your other recipes! Thank you for sharing.

I always meal prep my beans in a similar way(but in a crock pot) - great like you said for making some refried beans later: ) I made some pinto beans in my instant pot a few months ago and they were ok but I'm still a newb and I am still learning so the flavor and liquid ratio wasn't quite the same. :(

Love the idea of freezing small portions of beans for re-frying. how much shortening/lard would you need to turn the small portion into refried beans? Thanks for your recipes! I just made your churro beans and they were sooooo yummy!

I tried this recipe today and my sopita came out really pale and the beans were too soft and mushy. This has happened to me a few times even with different recipes! I have no clue as to why! Any ideas or tips?

I remember my grandma doing something with a screaming hot cast iron skillet and some sort of fat like crisco. She would spoon the beans and broth into the skillet then back into the pot without mashing them.
