In the Munchies Guide to Sweden, host Ivar Berglin explores the culinary offerings of Europe-s emerging culinary star. From reindeer to fermented herring, Ivar explores the dishes that define his nation and discover how a fresh culinary approach, New Nordic Cuisine, is shaping the future. In our opening episode, Ivar travels to Goteborg, Sweden-s fish capital, to put together a Swedish sm-rg-sbord with catch fresh from the sea. Then he tries one of Sweden-s weirdest dishes, surstr-mming - fermented herring. Ivar-s day finishes in Lysekil where he meets two fishermen who harvest Swedish oysters before eating the freshest possible shellfish on a secluded island

800, 000 cans of surstromming are sold every year. 700, 000 are sold to tourists who want to do a video about tasting surstromming with a vomit alert. Dude, you're supposed to remove the skin and schmear it on the bread just a bit with all of those other distractions. Eat it like a canape, it's not sushi.

Love sour herring, I find it really good and the smell (which I also love) takes me back to my the northen parts of Sweden where I grew up. --However, I eat it witch white hard thin bread. The potatoes has to be almond potatoes (they taste better) and yellow onion.

I think they planted those oysters. Don't oysters grow in colonies, like in huge beds? Thats how it works in the Chesapeake at least. Those oysters were just lying all by themselves, unattached, on the seafloor. Seems fishy. pun intended

Why did you guys go to Sweden? Norway is still more Scandinavian country than Sweden and Iceland would have been way more interesting than the Swedish meatballs. Sweden hates it's own history.

I can't take it seriously, every single country seems to be going through a food revolution these days. it gets real goofy hearing everyone say that.
