The MUNCHIES Guide To Washington: Going Deep

In Part 2 of our Guide to Washington, Tarik travels across the Puget Sound to sample some of Washington-s strangest seafood. First, Tarik stops by Pier 57 in downtown Seattle to meet some Seattleites who are redefining local seafood by fishing-or jigging-for squid right off the pier. Then, after an impressive meal of geoduck crudo prepared by Chef Michael Gifford at How to Cook a Wolf in the Queen Anne neighborhood, we head to the southern Puget Sound in the dead of night to see firsthand how these phallic clams are raised in the waters just offshore. Finally, we visit the historical Nordic town of Poulsbo on the Kitsap peninsula for a taste of lutefisk, the traditional dish of Norway with a nasty rep. (Bonus points if you can pronounce -geoduck- or -lutefisk- correctly)

It sucks living in the northwest my whole life and I can-t harvest geoduck and apples are three bucks a pound. All my secret salmon spots are overrun with illegal residents. Our way of life has been ruined by commerce and illegal immigration. It-s so fitting. I can-t feel bad as we have decimated the native Americans land and culture. I feel bad yet it used to be better for settlers and for natives.

Can anyone explain why they spell it -geo duck- when it-s pronounced -gooey- and not -geo- like in -geography-? And why is the writing on the beer steins and on the posters in -Little Norway- in German and not in Norwegian?

I'm from Norway and most speak English. It's like America but with more fish based food, one of the reasons Seattle is fish filled along with the pugeot sound. Lived in Seattle since I was 8 from Norway.

I would like to see Tarik go to a Seattle fire house and have dinner with the guys and gals working. Best dinners I've ever had were at a fire house and it would make for some good footage for sure!

Gooey duck you are the most disgusting thing my conscious mind has come across since centipedes. Why you encourage people to eat that thing is beyond me

I grew up trying to dig up geoducks. You'd be walking along and those bastards will squirt water at you then retreat in half a second. Never ate one though.

Why is there so much old German/Austrian shit in this Norwegian dudes house? It kinda looks more like a nazi hideout from Brazil than a Norwegian place.
