So I had shrimp and grits for the 1st time over a decade ago on a business trip to Charleston, SC. I literally had a culinary epiphany over how damn good a simple staple food dish could be. I've tried time, and time again to reproduce it at different restaurants, and it's usually just pretty good, but I've only come close by making them at home. (I spoon in the bacon grease, too! Bravo, Brudah) This is simply, my favorite comfort food. Not sure about the corn meal vs stone ground yellow grits, but they're essentially the same. Gonna give it a go. And, except for the child sized, tapas portion you plated, your spin on it looks HELLA good, Sam!

Thank you for taking my suggestion for Shrimp and grits! It is a deep south tradition, especially for the coastal south that supports shrimping. However you are probably going to get corrected by southerners that grits are hominy grits. Corn grits is polenta. Great kids. Essentially the cheesy garlic grits you made is my standard for breakfast grits. Spouse made me shrimp and grits for b'fest. I keep cracking up that you are so far the only person I've ever seen with their own Mongolian BBQ in their back yard.

My fiance and I just want to meet you guys. Also, my brother and his wife live in LA. If we just so happen to be on that side of the country (we live in Savannah ga) is there any way thatwe can meet you guys? We just want to hug you and thank you for making our food lives better. Also, unctious, c'mon now, nonsense, aaaand we mix have all entered into my everyday vernacular. Thank you and God bless.

Sam, an update. Made this tonight. I used Montreal Steak spice and olive oil + salt to marinate big 16-20 shrimp which I butterflied. To the basic cornmeal grits I added sliced green onion. My advice to viewers is to not skimp on the salt for the cheesy grits. My wife asked why I did these mods. My answer: BECAUSE I CAN! We both rate this dish 4/4 stars.

Sam reminds me a lot of my dad. Hes always embarrassingly proud, were talking shit to each other constantly, and ending every conversation with I love you. Its always refreshing to see genuine interactions, and a loving father. Hope I get to see you in one of your restaurants one day Sam. Thanks for the great content guys.

Good attempt of grits from a guy who isn't from the South. i'd sure like you to taste my grits. Takes 4 hours. I use white fresh ground grits. They are so different than normal grits. Whole cream white cheddar loads of butter. Not gritty at all and people that don't like grits have given mine a thumbs up.
