What happens when you combine the Patty Melt and the Monte Cristo - two of my favorite sandwiches - into one mega sandwich? Cmon Sam, pick up some Elderberry extract (not the syrup stuff, and 5g vitamin C, take it 3 times every day for the first 3 days as soon as you feel something coming on. If you still feel something, do another 3 days with a half dose. This is not medical advice, just a suggestion you might want to try. I haven't been sick in 15 years, and I work around sick people.

That looks incredible! I would be curious if you could just dip one side of the bread in the egg mixture and cook just that side of the bread. Then remove from the heat and allow it to cool slightly. Then butter the other side of the rye bread and build the sandwich as you did today. just this time you'd have the crunch of the rye bread (patty melt) and have the eggy cristo vibes on the inside. I wonder if that would take it up another notch. I'll have to give that a try myself! As always, keep up the amazing work!

Brown onion isn't a thing. Yellow onion is. White onion is. Both of those have brown skins, but it's the color of the inside. Of course, green onion is a thing.
Edit: I looked it up. Yellow onions are called brown onions some places. So his assertion that he couldn't get yellow onions so he got brown ones is non-sensical. Also, I'm from Vancouver like Sam and have lived in California, and have never heard them called brown onions.

Yellow onons are very rarely called brown onions because of the outside. but 99% of people refer to them as a Yellow onion. So, in essence, you are both correct. Max and Chance are just a little more correct when it comes to this particular matter.
Also, I am surprised there wasn't a fried egg placed inside of it since that seems to be the thing to do now.

Genuine question, no shade- can we not do the onions on the EVO as well instead of the separate burner? Is it because of adding the vermouth? I ve seen the separate burner used in other videos as well. Just trying to learn and wondering why sometimes it s separate? I want an EVO, can we not do all the things? Love your videos!

There's no such thing as a brown onion or head lettuce. There is a head OF lettuce like the is a head of cabbage (OF does not stand for Onlyfans LOL! No one wants Sam or Max to start an Onlyfans page. There are different types of lettuce but they grow in heads
Get Sam some elephant garlic. It'll blow his mind

The brown onion or yellow onion is a variety of dry onion with a strong flavour. They have a greenish-white, light yellow, or white inside; its layers of papery skin have a yellow-brown or pale golden colour. It is higher in sulphur content than the white onion, which gives it a stronger, more complex flavour.

The whole thing is greater than the sum of its parts! That's the expression you were looking for. If you just get of a bunch of parts and put them together then the whole thing is the sum of its parts. But sometimes it becomes something more than that, it becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

I would have dipped both sides of the bread in the egg and cooked it. Then put it all together as a sandwich putting it back on the flat top to briefly melt the Munster cheese. Also, I'd use cheddar cheese instead of american cheese. More flavour and it's not a processed cheese product.

Love you all! Your recipes look (and taste) amazing! Your videos and humor are the BEST! And I have to add, when you shout, The SMELL! on all your videos, is it weird that I can sometimes, actually smell them! (Kind of freaks me out) Thanks for all you do, and keep 'em coming!

Sam, love your show, but I also have an affinity for your other offspring, namely: SONS OF SAM! they are the hilarious idiots that you raised. AND WE LOVE THEM! I know u appreciate my saracasm! Your whole family is our Joy. Keep it cooking!

Looks OK Sam except for that American in it. I ll take cheddar and Munster any day. I love a juicy burger, and 80/20 is the way to go. That one looked a little too greasy/fatty, though. Personal preferences, yes.

A Monte Christo is dipped in beer batter and deep fried at the place where I go usually served with some types of dipping sauces. One of my favorite sandwiches. Rye or Pumpernickel is the best bread

Can't believe your grinding a rib eye for burger. Don't know what that cost in the states, but in Canada that's a 25. 00 steak! I think your creation would be a big hit though.

Max and Chance - Yes there is head lettuce and there is also a head of lettuce. Sam - seriously a brown onion? For shame Sam, for shame. Yellow, red, and white onions Sam.
reply

This is genius but I would make the french toast bread separately prior to building the sandwich and also add a sunny side up juicy egg to it. Oh man. Just a thought.

The Monte Cristo is sprinkled with powdered sugar with berry jam on the side or as a thin layer on the sandwich. Been serving at Disneyland forever.

I believe a brown onion is the same thing as a yellow onion. The yellow onion is the more popular term. I side with the boys on this one. Sorry Sam.
reply

The last time I had montecristo it had batter completely submerged, probably had flour. Sprinkled powdered sugar on it and came with raspberry jam.

The Monte Christo I had in Branson Missouri was a ham and cheese sandwich dipped in funnel cake batter and then deep fried! Yeah that was heaven!
