Why I Make Zero-Waste Videos noirettebeauty: Is this possible in a north-facing nyc apartment? I didnt know what being pale was like until i moved to nyc from californiaAlso, i want statistics on how much waste individual New Yorkers produce on a daily basis. They dont have the time to make their own food, let alone to sort their trash. Composting does not exist in harlem, and the produce at any Fine Fare and Morton Williams are partially rotted. I had to store my vegetables in the fridge because they wither in the dry central heating. My husband purchases his smaller-than-Im-accustomed-to oranges at Whole Foods, and the sign says, Grown in California and they rot within 2 days. Stores impulsively place the smallest itemsa candy barinto a plastic bag. I rarely see people whip out their own produce bags at grocery stores here. The amount of waste and trash in New York makes the environmentalist in any Bay-born-and-raised Californian cryAtleast they dont depend on gas-guzzling SUVs like people in LA lol

Because waste is a problem - we put fruit and veg waste in a compost bin. We throw plastic such as the packaging that leeks, cucumbers and so on in the trash that will not decompose like the scraps. If companies stopped producing so much plastic, we wouldnt have such a problem that we have. I respect nature and the planet, I try to avoid foods packed in plastic but cant always because its everywhere and I cant find veg that is sold in my local supermarket, getting unpackaged food is difficult because they used to offer plastic bags to fill with your own vegetables and fruit; Morrisons and M&S in the UK where I am are only just listening to their customers by replacing the plastic bags with paper bags that degrade much faster and in a more natural way to any of the plastic bags.

I loved this video, please keep making more zero waste content. NOTE TO EVERYONE INTERESTED IN SAVING FOOD WASTE: look into Imperfect Produce It is a subscription service that brings you organic produce to your door that would be wasted otherwise. They are the reject fruits and vegetables that stores wont buy due to cosmetic blemishes. Ive been using this service for a few weeks, and honestly the majority looks like produce you could get in the store. Its very affordable, you prevent food waste and its convenient. They also accept snap benefits to make it more accessible to everyone. BONUS: you choose the veggies and fruit you want each week, its not random

I really like that you acknowledge that not everyone can go zero waste, not only is it more expensive but its also a lot of work and not everyone can do that, either because they dont have the time or bc theyre disabled. I love zero waste videos and environmentalism but there is a big tendency to leave disabled people out of this conversation. A lot of us need plastic straws or utensils. Maybe we cant lift drinks without spilling them, maybe we cant wash the dishes because the sound and feel makes us throw up. And zero waste is a lot of work and effort and energy that some ppl dont have. So yeah, Im glad it was acknowledged tho: D

I compost. thats all. I use as much as I can then I compost it but you cannot compost onions or broccoli or potatoes. or pasta or rice. To have change happen just lead by example and talk about what you do. I offer options to my parents alot or when I come across a new way to get rid of plastic. Like a burkey. its a water container with carbon filters that last 15 years. 15 YEARS its 360 that is alot but if your buying filters ever 2 months. this is saving you money. We will be buying one at the end of the year hopefully after we use all of our filters so we dont just toss those out for no reason.

I appreciate this as a way to save money and survive, but its environmental impact is literally zero. The USA wastes half of its food. but not on the consumer end. Its restaurants throwing out what doesnt sell within the day, because its worth less a day old. Its also throwing out produce that doesnt look pretty enough for a grocery store, even though its perfectly good tasting, and then worst of all, poisoning thrown out food so homeless people dont eat it. Consumers impact is very low. Our real difference making power is in protest, and voting.

great video i feel like making the most out of your produce is especially important if you eat meat, one of the things i hate most is when people will grow an entire animal just for consumption and then throw a third of it away. try to eat offal like livers, kidneys, intestines or giblets use the bones so make stocks eat the marrow heck, eat the bones if theyre soft enough, theyre full of iron and calcium dont let any of the energy that went into producing your meat go to waste and if you can, reduce your overall meat consumption

All of these pieces shes talking about people not cooking with my mom has always cooked with and Ive always cooked with. Cooking videos drive me nuts because they always throw out like half the ingredients. Who doesnt eat broccoli stalks? Who throws out the entire bottom of an onion? Who dumps leek tops? Well I guess Im glad those people are getting some videos to show them potential alternatives.

Positivity bias. In the meantime all the products has been farmed and sold with magnitudes more waste than you do at home. The sustainable growth is an oxymoron. Growth is what makes your modern life possible. The only sustainable way of living is to stop producing more human life, devolve economy and just give the planet back to non-cancerous species with no over-evolved sentience.

This is all good but we need to acknowledge that the people at fault for a majority of all food waste are big companies, like grocery stores that throw out TONS of food daily. So you shouldnt feel guilty if you throw out some stale bread every once in a while. Otherwise this is a good video for those who feel like making the most out of their groceries so kudos to you
