I went to Canada on a trip with my family & I remember specifically ordering a piece of apple pie from an Applebees in the Ontario area & they served it to me with melted cheese on top & a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. I gotta say it was very good & truly unique & tasted really different than an other apple pie Ive eaten

My grandma tried making something. similar. once. She put unpeeled apples slices on bread with sugar, cinnamon and topped it with a slice of processed American cheese and just threw it in the oven. She thought she was being fancy with the whole fruit with cheese thing. It was absolutely disgusting

A lot of gross combinations can be justified if theyre properly broken down. Such as ranch dressing on pizza. Marinara, Cheese, Crust, Dressing, its the same as Tomatoes, Cheese, Croutons, and Dressing. Is a pizza a hard salad? Or is a salad a boneless pizza?

American style apple pies tend to be very sweet and it needs the sour bite of a really sharp cheddar cheese to kind of brighten everything up. Im not sold on the whole melting it on top thing, but theres always a few pieces of cheese on the same plate as my apple pie.

My family is from Wisconsin, so cheese and apple pie was always just a Thing that I grew up with, though I cant recall ever eating it myself. (I dont care for apple pie, personally) I never considered that it might be weird to people not from the midwest, lol.
