Some of these methods might help but not others. Type of Aphids, type of plants, weather, area of the world you're in, Location of plant, how you use the method. etc. will determine your success. For myself most chemicals. oils soaps will help in the short term, but in the long run the Aphid WILL build up a resistance. ( like many say I been using this for YEARS and it works.
In my part of the world. Ladybugs are useless, Most soaps neem oil etc. might as well set aside. Onions etc. will eventually be covered.
What I have learned, watching/studying these amazing creatures over the years. They are smarter then you think. To CONTROL them in my little part of the world. A simple hose down and PLENTY of air movement through the plant. Do not use store bought fertilizers and control the ant population. Hoverflies help me out also.
The ONLY way you will ERADICATE them, throw out your plants and move on to another hobby.
Bit of Advice. Do not throw your infested leaves on the ground. in no time they will be on a mission and travel to the next best plant in your garden.

Of the Aphid Pest Family, the worst has to be the woolly aphid, as the wool they produce protects them from most if not all of the natural predators, even tbe ants can't seem to penetrate their defence. I have them on 2 decorative crab apple tree's, and I've tried several organic remedies, ok for a short term, but it is short term. Does anyone know an effective fix, that doesn't involve a heat gun? They burrow into the upper layer and create nodules, which if left unchecked can grow in size up to several inches. It's getting so bad I fear I will have pollard them, or even cut them down. HELP!

ahh, this brings back memories. i worked in tomato greenhouses for a summer and at one point we had an aphid problem. we purchased ladybugs and plant tags with parasitic wasp eggs glued on them, but given the time it took for the ladybugs to arrive and for the wasp eggs to hatch, one of my tasks until the control measures started was to spend an hour or so each day just squishing all the aphids i could find, by hand. definitely a low point of my job, and not much improved by the ladybugs crawling out of their jars and all over me when i removed them from cold storage.

you do nnot have to cit off the leafs you have a acid based natural spray that kills trhem with no effort. spray on and they die and then wash them off.
using a hose is just ineffective. if you have afids you likelyt have ants. ants carry them to the plant and milk them. its a short term solution but long term you will have them again and likely spread as you are effectivly spreading them.
As for prevention preevent ants ants and afids are a problem that comes together. if you have ants your afid issue is going to get worse faster.

Keeping your plants in your garden healthy is of the upmost importance, strong plants will protect themselves against aphids. If you have and aphid issue try Planting mint sporadically at the base of your plants throughout your garden. Ive tried many of the store bought sprays and they didnt work for me, but have always come back to planting more mint. Thankfully I learned my lesson in my small planters before I started a larger garden. The mint will spread and do no harm to your garden. This has worked for me over the years.

I just learned the trick when you see ants put out equal parts powdered sugar & either baking soda or borax with water to the consistency of honey. The sugar attracts & the soda/soap kills the ants.
Aphids can't fly so they need the ants to carry them. No ants & the aphids have to go elsewhere or dye too.
Granulated sugar doesn't work for two reasons, it gets hard & it's so big its easy for the ants to pick the sugar out and skip the soda/soap.

Nice, good points. I use dilute detergent with a sprayer, on the UNDERSIDE of the leaves & other plants. On Non-edible plants I use very dilute insecticide (nothing nasty. Prevention (the better option? Plant lots of garlic everywhere, a food crop in itself, good for the soil, deep tough roots, discourages insects; use solution from crushed garlic for spraying. And it stops the cat from using my nicely dug beds for you know what.

Here in central Texas, the native sunflowers attract aphid. I planted them down wind from my garden areas (Im really windy. Aphids migrated to the sunflowers, which attracted lady bugs and other assassin bugs. Doing this again this year to see if it was a fluke. My crepe myrtles get heavy spray. Takes care of them instantly. But I also do when I first see them show up. Thank you for showing more Non-chemical choices

I have a climbing honeysuckle tree in my garden. No matter what I do, I get aphid on the flowers once it blooms. I regularly spray with water and dish soap, but they return every year. Only plant in my garden that becomes infested. I need help! Can you point me in the right direction? Hard to spray them off the tiny flowers and from a shrub thats nearly 8 feet tall. Im barely five feet, lol.

I had aphids on my rose bushes. I read about a weird trick so I tried it. I squished a few on each infested leaf but left the rest alone. In the morning the aphids were completely gone! Weird trick worked! That was years ago and Ive never had them come back! They passed on the message to their offspring? I dont know but theyre gone!

I had horrible aphid problem on my chard plant. I watered them off thank you for that advise! Then I read somewhere online banana peel they hate smell so I put thin two pieces of banana peel circling around my chard plant on top soil. I been changing out banana peel. Then 2 weeks later and still no aphids come back!

In Poland there's this tradition to sometimes tie yellow ribbons around plants so they attract ladybugs (so you don't have to pay for them. And the other way - that's supposed to be eco friendly and allowing the consumption of the plant afterwards is the 1%vinegar solution misted over the aphids.

Great video, as always! ! Something I learned while working in a lettuce greenhouse was to be very careful and delicate when removing aphids. If you swing the infested leaf over your garden patch you might accidentally help them colonize another plant and have a nasty surprise in the next few days/weeks!

I'm surprised that you just threw those infected leaves on the soil instead of putting them in a bag or box to then make sure that the infestation is contained. Aphids are born pregnant, reproduce every 20 minutes so spreading them onto the soil is undermining your effort to keep your garden clean.

I splooshed the heck outta my plants with water in hope to get rid of aphids but of course those lil prick came back up a few hours later. I sprayed them with castile soap and sprayed diatomaceous earth after, its still coming back and alive. Man, I think I have mutant aphids.
