You can make a lot of mistakes when doing something as simple as watering your garden. Kevin shares the bare bones basics of how to water for beginner growers. Jessica: Hearing you say that you've killed a million seedlings weirdly made me feel ready to start mine. I was recently told that I shouldn't be embarrassed by my black thumb because practice made perfect. I should have trusted them! I figured people were just born with this weird third sense that I cannot tap into.

Hey Kevin, I think you forgot to mention the PPM and pH of the tap water vs rain water. Could you go over a video explaining this as well? I think it's important to know because I'm in San Diego too and pH is 8. 0 out of the tap and goes up to 8. 8 after chlorine gasoff. Thanks!

Not sure if it was mentioned. The best water is harvested rain water. If you must use tap water, leave it in barel few days to vaporize all chlorine. The water from deep well is not perfect too because of salts and low temperature which some plants dont like.

many people forget, YOU SHOULDNT WATER PLANTS LEAVES WHEN ITS HOT, they assume its raining and open their pores losing even more water.
Edit: Its because of cells called stomata, they absorb water, expand and open the pore.

I have a slightly novel use for my watering can. Whenever i do a water change on my aquariums, i do it straight into a watering can. Don't let that fishy fertilizer go to waste!

Kevin, just wanted to say that you guys have inspired me to start over 150 seeds this year! I did maybe 25-30 last year. Love the videos and the information you provide.

I always do the water wait water, first garden this year but after checking the soil and seeing how dry it was it made sense to let it soak in a bit.

Do you feel it's important to water branches/leaves such as on vines? Or is it best and most efficient just to water near the roots?
