Good advice on planting only big cloves. Over 12 years of growing garlic have proven that is 100% true for me. I use floating row cover to keep our squirrels from digging in my garlic and planting walnuts. I do doubt hydrogen peroxide will kill white rot, since its invades inside the clove. That's why its good to only grow certified seed garlic. I have replanted clean garlic from my own crop, as I have never gotten white rot here. But I am a home grower and I wouldn't plant anything but certified seed if I was growing it commercially. I also plant in clean potting soil that has never grown any onions, leeks, or garlic before.

Okay Epic guys, I’ve followed your instructions for 3 years and finally this summer I grew some nickel size cloves. They had the cutest cloves about the size of a chickeydee’s little claw. But I was so happy to finally see a head develop from a clove. So this year I rushed to your store and ordered whatever kind you have. I hope Epic Eric blessed the bulbs before mailing cause this is THE year. If I get useless heads I will move on. If I’m blessed with real garlic heads I’ll buy a birdie bed like yours (when on sale of course. Love. Your encouragement guys, you seem to know I failed.

You need to wash the HP off, because it breaks down into hydrogen, oxygen AND a free radical, its the last electron from the water molecule. That's what kills microbes. Super powerful against bacteria and microbes, not harmful mainly to us and plants. Something to do with over oxidation.
So you don't want to transfer that into the ground, will stunt the microbes after planting. Wash it off before your fertilise soak.

I was wondering how garlic is so resilient being clones (that therefor lack genetic diversity) even though they're planted in big blocks as monocrops that provide ideal conditions for the development of pests and diseases. Apparently the monocrop factory farmers won. We've got the pests and diseases they were after. They were after that right Gotta love apocalypse farming.

Great workshop! I have a question though. I had to give up growing garlic here in Aotearoa/New Zealand because of the rust. It was so intense that it prevented the bulb from fully forming, or sometimes the plant was so depleted by the rust that no bulb formed at all. I wonder if the two dips you do before planting will help. Do you have any suggestions

FWIW, I came across a video about planting garlic around fruit trees for a tastier yield and to deter pests. You don’t harvest the garlic but leave it there for its benefits to the tree. I’m trying it this year since all my apples all had bore holes from something eating them. And also planted some garlic in my strawberry patch as an experiment too.

I left some bulbs in the ground forgetting to harvest them. They’ve now sprouted roots a little and I’m going to plant them anyway instead of the garlic I harvested when I should have and dried. Wish me luck. :) I’ve done well planting this late the last 2 years. Western Oregon winters aren’t overly harsh, but it’s a lot of cold and wet for a while.

Whoa whoa whoa, nope, just because farmers do it DOES NOT make it right! I live in all farming territory and most farmers r looking to make money, not worry about if it's the right thing to do for the end product.
I have never done this, and I seriously get 99. 9% germination from the bulbs I plant, I definitely won't b doing this dunking!

I love your videos. I've been watching you both since I started gardening which was March this year. I tried to growing garlic in the summer time that didn't work. However, I tried again and my garlic is looking good. I'm keeping it inside because I am in a kind of a warm climate in North Carolina. Keep doing what you doing guys I love it

I just planted elephant garlic last week and now I’m just waiting for a sign of life I bought them from a local co-op and the cloves looked really pathetic as I caught the last few but we’ll see what happens!

Zone 5B here. Planted 300 bulbs for my first year on November 1st. =P. Already remulched the bed because I have a ton of growth. What did you use for your fertilizers both pre-soak and at the time planting

Great video. I planted hardneck garlic and hope I get a great harvest in 2025. Didn't know about soaking them in fertlizer. For 2026 hopefully I'll try an experiment one half soaked garlic and another without.

If you're concerned with disease, would it not make sense to peel and separate the garlic bulbs away from the planting bed You disinfect the bulbs but have all the debris laying on top of your bed.

Very good to know! Thank you for sharing! And now I understand why you would want to inoculate your bulbs and how to do it. Would you recommend doing the same process with flower bulbs

The weather where I live is extremely unpredictable. We normally get a hard freeze by Halloween but we didn't this year my garlic is growing leaves. Is that an issue and how do I fix it

My garlic has already been under snow for a few weeks, first year with a yard so first year growing garlic for me. Fingers crossed I did it right, my area usually has great garlic!

I call that cover, hardware cloth. big overkill for chickens.
My garlic of choice for where I am is elephant garlic. and I like it better than other garlic.

I'm in KC zone 6 and finally had a chance to plant some garlic today. hope it's not to late. I should have done it a month ago but how life goes. wish me luck

The papers that you peeled off of your garlic were not soaked in the peroxide. Anything you were trying to get off of your garlic you just buried in the soil lol
