Ginger Growing from Store-Bought Ginger Roots!

I forgot about a piece of ginger I purchased on my pantry shelf and when I cleaned the shelf I found that a big huge green sprout had punched its way through the plastic bag. So without knowing what would happen I put the whole root in water and left it in my sunniest window sill and I went back to it two weeks later and its got 3 new sprouts and a mass of roots growing. I wasn't sure what to do at this stage but your video helped me. although the roots are all attached to the big piece of ginger, so should I cut that part off and just plant the roots and sprouts or will that damage it?

Love the video and it inspired me to grow my ginger as well. Now I have 4 to 5 foot shoots Which is nice but I dont understand when should I expect to have some ginger.

I started getting my shoots so I decided to re-plant in a larger container and when I did that I snapped the original ginger off just so I have the shoots and the roots. How do I know when to unearth the new Ginger? is there any way to know when you actually have new ginger roots growing that can be used Without destroying the plant to get to it?

Grown ginger last year in a 2 X 4 foot raised bed. Planted about 8 rhizome pieces. I now have more ginger than I know what to do with. Given a lot of it away, but still have probably 20 lbs still in the ground. Very easy to grow here in Georgia. Lots of water, well draining soil, and shade from the hot summer sun. Good luck to everyone.

I really hate to say this to you. But, I believe that you are planting you Ginger shoots way to close together. You should spread them apart a lot further apart because when the Ginger root is mature it will be butting against each other for soil in your pot.

I've tried it 3 times. One in two large plastic tubs with 1/2 drain holes and on in ground. All wet rotted. I will try these instructions and your other video. Easy to grow? Hardly. This is one of the most difficult things I've ever tried to grow.

Lol. I bought a huge bag of ginger on clearance for like 2 dollars, forgot about it for like a month and I already have ginger eyes on the ginger itself. Just plunked it into some water. Hoping for the best

Ginger loves moist soil that drain well and has ph of around 6. 5 thats all i can remember of it. Thanks for the tips now can grow the ginger my woman has that she bugging me about

Also what matter did you grow it in? Any particular type of soil? Lastly, how deep does the garden/pot need to be? Thank you!

What kind of water should I be using? Is tap water ok, or do I need to use distilled perhaps? It seems like tap water made my rhizome rot last time I tried a year or so ago.
