I watched this video hoping to find something more affordable than my current seed storage system. I was a little surprised to see that this video features the exact same system I am using. Down to the seller, size, and even color of the exterior. The iris photo storage boxes come in a variety of colors. My problem? Two of them are $60. I've already filled 8 and more than half of my seeds don't fit in it. I have a extensive seed collection.
I've spent $240 for the first 8. Would need to spend at least $240 more dollars for another 8 and I suspect I would need four or six more beyond that. I can't afford $1, 000 on seed storage containers. Back to the drawing board.
I need something that can hold a thousand packets or more of seeds, I'm sure that's way understating it.

I like this idea better than what I currently do and will still consider it. I have mine currently stored in a plastic rectangular box with lid and tried organizing with index cards as to when to plant placed in between sections. Well, it can be difficult thumbing through all of them and then quickly placing back inside when done planting in the right place can be mire cumbersome. I thought I saw someone recently have theirs stored like in pickets in a notebook, so you can quickly flip through and see what you have and what you might need to order. Again that sounds fairly easy for pulling the seeds out for planting and putting back in too.

This year I sorted my seeds into months. I used to forget seed. Especially in months like September for something that comes up in March. I've written it in my garden notebook and I also have months where I write what perrenials to harvest that month and what I have sown that year. Some months have bulky containers, July-September is just a couple of packages but that'll change because some seeda you can sow twice a year. I'm really excited about the coming year.

i can't believe you didn't see the problem with the first storage version, that's the first thing i thought. how are you going to get the seeds out? there are little containers, like what restaurants use for to go sauces, you can write on the lids. waaay cheaper. you have so many seeds, you'd have to have so many. i only use these little containers for the harvested seeds

Thanks to this video, after I ordered a metric butt ton of seeds that I don't even have enough space to plant seedlings in yet, I ordered my first box like this. I need to get a second one but I have to wait until all of my seeds come in to determine if I need more than one for now. Also, I LOVVVVE labeling stuff. Like OCD style so this is great! :)

For my regular sized seed packages, I close the opening with clips if I opened that seed bag already. I store all of them in a small cardboard box. I have this large bag of strawberry bulbs that don't fit in there so I put it in an empty frozen veggie bag that can reseal at the top, like a ziploc bag that I didn't have to pay extra for.

So glad I found this video! I have way too many seeds; it's a little out of hand. Popped in to my local Hobby Lobby, & bought a photo organizer after seeing this. Great advice! Also, you mentioned in this video that seeds can last decades. That's so true; I'm growing some lettuce from seeds I've had since 1989!

I have two of the photo boxes full of seeds. and ordered more this week. Since I needed more storage, Michael's had them on sale in their Black Friday sale, so I bought two more yesterday. (I did some seed-saving this year, so I truly needed more storage) Worse comes to worse, I will gift one to my daughter.

My father always used a huge metal tin (the macadamia nut ones from hawaii) and he would organize them inside of it with plastic bags by groups with the envelopes inside! very similar method but not quite as clean. Only way to upgrade you method that I would recommend is refrigeration

If you live in the north, most of the time you only get one shot at getting
it right. It's not a bad idea to test any suspect seeds in late January, early
February to check viability. Whilst there's still time to order new.
Very cool storage idea. TYFS

I know this is an older video, and I believe I've watched it when it first came out. but I think i'm finally going to step up and try this method. Today. I'm going to go purchase a seed briefcase lol because frankly my seed starting has grown out of control!

I'm curious. I find a poor germination rate from Baker Seed Company. I miss the variety but if they don't germinate than it's a waste all around.
I store my packets in shoe boxes and the seeds I harvest are stored in my own seed envelopes out of junk mail.

So spooky the last video I watched was the one you recommend for seed storage. Just added it to my shopping basket on amazon uk. I intend to label mine also putting the month to sow, then at a glance I will see when to sew them.

Ill use an airtight container with a desiccant pack inside, throw my bagged up seeds in there. Then into the fridge, its supposed to simulate winter somewhat. So when you bring them out ready to germ they think spring is coming

I have a growing concern about trees being cut down in my native country Jamaica for housing developments. I would appreciate advice on how to start a proper seed bank. Hoping to store seeds for more than a decade if possible
