I have a 3 tier original GreenStalk and I have struggled with consistent watering. I put a squash plant, tomato plant, green beans, Anaheim peppers, cucumber and some random flowers. And I have experience blossom end rot on the tomatoes, cucumbers, and Anaheims.
I think adding mulch to the individual pods probably would help with keeping the water in the soil. It seems like if I fill up the trough too quickly that itll just all come pouring out the bottom. I did get the support system, and it has helped lift the cucumber off the ground, and support the tomatoes a little bit, but the tomatoes are indeterminate so theyre growing a little too much for the support that I can provide. I probably will not do a squash next year because the plant just got so large that it spilled onto the ground and the stem split. Its currently being supported via pantyhose tied to the support on the second level.
Its been a fun learning experience growing on the patio!

Hey Kev, I live in Corona, about an hour from you. big fan! Our home was built into a tract made by blasting boulders so my soil is very hard. I've amended it for 2 years, but after I water, the surface is like hard clay. I know it takes years to improve soil overall, but need to get through another season. This garden is cucs/squash/zucchini, should I top-dress it with amend, raised bed soil, no composter just yet and I dont think you can buy compost at Lowes/HD. I'm 2 mos in the earth and none of my bracchius are over 12 tall yet. I'd be so grateful for any advice. Tommy

Strawberries are pretty good for the vertical system. However, there are few things to consider.
Pests. Slugs were targeting my strawberries as we were hit with so much rain. Slug bait doesn't work as these guys could chill on the side of the pots and chewing is berries. For that, I had to construct a little metal hoop that would go around the tiers and keep berries away from the surface.
Birds. They were pecking each and single berry in the green stalk. Net solved that problem.
Strawberries. Not all varieties can do well in the pots

Hey Kevin. You steered me towards the birdie bins and I was the one that found them also in Canada under a different name and I thank you kindly for that. But I cannot find these Green Stalk Vertical planters anywhere. There are many knock offs as I have one or two but I would like this one it seems to be a much more efficient and better system. I never tire of your videos and its always nice to see your smiling face.

I've bought the 5 tier and the 7 tier, and using up here in Canada, and loving growing things vertically. The 7 tier is being used to grow strawberries and herbs, and the 5 tier for all sorts of lettuces, boy choy, pak choy, swiss chard, spinach, radishes, and peppermint on the bottom to keep the raccoons away. Next year maybe a couple more!

I love this video. the hummingbird wasn't in frame but I get it, I have a hummingbird that lives at my house and she loves my garden.
I've been wanting a green stalk for sometime and I think I'll just bite the bullet and get one.
Just don't know 5 or 7.
Thanks for the video.

I just planted my Greenstalk this week. Easier to put together than I thought. Just needed help with the top tier because I'm not tall. I LOVE it! Easiest thing in the garden to water and I look forward to a summer filled with herbs, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and beans.

Super helpful video--thank you so much! I received a greenstalk for Mother's Day from my family, and your tips are super helpful as I figure out how to best utilize it. Really appreciate you going in depth on the watering system as that's something I'm very worried about!

I have one of these and I am struggling on how to figure out how to use a liquid fertilizer in it. I'm using 4 tiers. any suggestions? Because if you just mix up a gallon of water with the fertilizer at a time, I'm constantly just adding more. Thanks for any help!

I'm hoping to get one for strawberries soon! I am trying to grow more of our own food to save money, help the planet, and help us eat better. Also my 3 year old is really getting into helping and it's making her more open to trying new foods if she helped grow them!

I would have loved a vertical planter back when I lived in an apartment! I made my own makeshift one with a wall and plastic bottles that i cut in two and made drainage holes in and clipped to the wall, grew some serious thyme in those!

I have a small tower system, but I really like that Greenstalk Garden Tier! It would hold much more than the one I have. I got a tibial plateau fracture last year, so no more getting on the ground for me. Raised gardens are it for me now!

Does anyone know to improve drainage in a raised bed. It rains a lot in my area and I believe that's a problem for my seedlings when they try to develop roots. Is there anything I can add to improve drainage and aeration?

I bought one and didnt get to really use it because my oldest son moved out and only had a balcony.
I enjoyed watching him start seeds just before he moved and I blessed him with it as he went. What mom wouldnt?
