Ive been doing corn in small plots for awhile now and I'd say my best tips is to tap the tassles into a jar as they become fertile. Wind pollination is great if you have acres of corn but if you want consistent full ears on a small plot then take the tassles, slide a jar overtop and shake vigourously, you will see the pollen collect in the bottom. use a paintbrush to apply the pollen to the silks.
companion planting with nitrogen fixers is monumental. especially if they also provide live mulch. I use three sisters method because respect to the OG's and my kids love pumpkins but there are plenty of ground cover nitrogen fixers that will throw your organic corn game into overdrive.
also. I love your videos but please, please PLEASE, don't husk your corn. throw it on an open fire or BBQ to steam in the husk. so much better than paper towel (minus the nostalgia factor obviously)

Thank you so much for all your videos. I am currently growing my first red bell pepper plant. This was a starter plant that I bought at Lowe's tbh but I am planning on collecting seed from the harvest and starting all over with a second pepper plant come next spring. You and your friends have inspired me to want to grow so many other things and corn has just been added to the list I am totally stoked by all the info that I have compiled from watching your vids and I am going to go garden crazy this upcoming fall and next spring. Still in planning phases of what exactly I will be growing.

I gotta post this comment only from
the perspective of experience. Im a corn lover but its something I only eat once a year and only from my own garden. Despite this, I would never eat corn raw from even my own garden. Ive known people whove developed parasites from just
eating under cooked corn. I see there isnt any reference on the internet, but often information gets buried as the generations go on. Hopefully you have a strong stomach and its acid makes short work of anything you might ingest. Dont want to take the horn out of your corn. just saying.
PS. maybe a garlic chaser?

I grew a large patch of corn a few years ago but then I lost everything overnight to mealy bugs! The whole thing just went limp and we had to chop down everything and after a few days add it into the compost pit. I had a sick tree which hosted the mealy bugs (which got to almost all my plants around it) and after this attack I got rid of the tree.

Nice video, but next time you nuke one, you might try (if you haven't already, is don't shuck it, but just toss the whole thing in and cook, then when you take it out, cut off 1/4- 1/2 inch of the stem end, then squeeze the tip, and the ear should pop right out, with the silk and everything left in your hand. No peeling and stripping of the silk

This year I planted a block of corn. I guess I havent watered enough and it has tasseled early. I am zone 9a. Should I remove the ones that have tasseled early to make way for the ones that havent? I am now watering more after watching your video on watering. Also what the latest you can plant corn? Can I start again?

I have 8ft tall corn plants (heirloom blue corn. They just put on tassels, but there are no little cobs with cornsilk on any of them! Never had that problem before. Same with yellow summer squash and butternut. All male blossoms and no fruit. They get water and fertilizer and have great foliage, but don't produce!

Shouldnt you too dress with organic fertilizers? As I understand it, the soil food web critters need to break down the organic matter before it can be bioavailable to the plantstarting w the largest critters that live close to the surface. Love to know your thoughts! Always learning!

I'm in Upstate New York and 2 years ago (2020) the earwigs destroyed my corn. It was all going well until it wasn't. Total loss. Thought is was my land. Glad to know it's common. I haven't grown corn since because. Never looked into it to see what could be done.

Fascinating and useful! I'm planning on growing flint corn and flour corn in my part of the world, and showing the details on growing corn was really useful. I loved the multicolour corn's appearance, so gorgeous, and cannot wait to harvest my own

Ok. l'm Feelin' that yummmmy Corn right with ya my Buddy! We're growing Corn this year. 120' x 12' Patch o Ground. trying to offset my Chickie Feed Bill. but planting Sweet Corn. Jubilee & Bodacious. Excited! .uh. the Girls may not get too much.

I found 3 corn stalks growing in my garden. I didn't plant them, I suspect the birds did. lol. The food I buy them has corn in it and they are always throwing their feed around, so I always have mystery plants sprouting up

After you pull the corn off the stalk, what do you do with the stalk? Do you just pull it out of the ground after you get the corn off, or do more cobs grow on it and you pull it out after it dies?

THANK YOU! I planted six in one row and at maturity in filled and proper soil, they seem stunted. I'm guessing its a pollination issue based upon this video. I need a block not a line. Thanks again!
