How To Lift Heavy Logs on Log Cabin with Simple Tools! 15 - One Man Traditional Log Cabin series Jay: You did a good job for your first ) attempt at this. These methods are not unknown by any means and it would really help if you took a class or got mentorship from someone that understands actual traditional rigging methods for architecture. In this case, you are attempting with some success parbuckling but seemed to miss a lot of the steps and methods that would have made your job a lot easier. I commend you for figuring out that you needed keeps in your system and you did a pretty good job of splicing them into the ramp poles, which is also standard practice, particularly when working alone.
The primary issue with the system (as practiced here) was you trying to work only one end of the timber at a time rather than the traditional method for single man parbuckling which would have afforded you a faster lift and the ability to lift longs 4 times larger. which means these logs would have moved much faster than they did without the continued sliding and moving from end to end.
Thanks for sharing all of this project. I hope you get a chance to do more and perhaps edit in some of the things you are trying to learn and would do differently.

Ach du Lieber, mein freund! What a very wonderful feeling of accomplishment & the joy of using good tools! The sound of the ax hitting nice wood is like special music! The birds in the background are such a wonderful musical treat too! This guy sure could use MORE EXERCISE though! How about someone donating a nice Lazyboy recliner? Wonder how long it took him to assemble all his logs - they sure were fine looking & so straight! Looking forward to seeing the finished product & coming to the house warming & scarfing down some tasty horses douvers! A side dish of LUTEFISK would be

The rope trick you are using is called, in English, a parbuckle. You might find it easier if you doubled the rope so that you were pulling at the middle point of the rope. Secure the two lower ends of the rope to the corners of the cabin, run the rope loop under the log and then back up to where you stand. Pull on both ropes - the log will be less likely to wobble or cant.
Your cabin and effort is very impressive.

This is a great way of getting the logs on up there! I saw another way of using pallets for steps as you go higher and higher they also do! The door can be done with shorter logs have those cut for the doorway then it is less of weight for you on that side!

I've been watching a couple of different guys build these log homes and have concluded this guy is far better than all I've watched. His technique of concaving the bottom of each log so when rolled into place a nice tight seam is made.

Fantastic! This coming just in time, i been trying to move some logs to my truck to take to the mill, and they are just too heavy for me to do it. Tomorrow Im going to try to build a ramp like yours: D How perfect! thank you so much!

Excellent as usual. I am surprised that you don't utilize a good pair of gloves for a lot of these procedures. You probably have some excellent calluses but even then you can have a painful tear out. Keep up the excellent work!

I truly hope a lot of young Americans will see your videos on how to do build something by hand, real hand tools, release stress, enjoy nature, and feel very accomplished.
Thank you for sharing your story with us!

What type of wood are you using? Im halfway through building a log cabin with the pines harvested from my property at the moment. Wish we had enough poplars or I would definitely use those instead.

This process matches up with the first requirement on moving large, heavy, awkward objects.
Namely that you need to smarter than the large, heavy, awkward objects you wish to move.

hi erik. i was wondering why you don't use a saw (instead of an axe) to cut the pegs when they are put in their holes? (like at 18: 34). btw, thanks for sharing your journey; )

Ok Eric, you would be great at an ax bar! Do they have ax bars in Sweden? I would think they do if they have them here in Florida. Great idea huh, drink alcohol and throw axes!

Your videos came up on my feed today and I have been watching them all day. It's so interesting to see how you build, how did you learn how to build log cabins?

Question: do you build your log cabin with green logs? Are these logs been dried for awhile? Can I build it with green log freshly cut?
reply

I must say, very relaxing and soothing to watch your job. This natural speed helps to slow down, not to be in a hurry. Thank you!

Or just one end at a time dead lift. Like you did in the end. But any higher and okay, as you did will do.
reply

I was wondering, how does it not mold? Is there something you do to protect the wooden logs from that?
reply

What's the name of the axe that you use to remove the pulp of the trunk? the one with the U-shaped end
