Dragging Out Last Logs by Hand for Log Cabin 11 - One Man Traditional Log Cabin series Peter: I've had to do much the same. Having a come-along - a manually operated cable winch - or a powered winch, makes this process much easier than trying to move the logs without mechanical advantage. If you need to do more work like this and you don't have any sort of winch on hand, there's a device made from rope and a couple of logs that's called a flip-flop winch that you could put together very quickly in your situation and that could save you loads of time and physical strain. Rollers help a great deal, but adding in some basic mechanical advantage makes a world of difference.

I am so stoked to see someone else my age who values the hard work and craftsmanship of building something from nothing, all without power tools. I also just graduated and am looking for land in Alaska to move to and build my own log cabin. I watched through all of your videos in search of the best way to move larger logs as i will be remote without power, to see that all it takes is some elbow grease. Maybe some well placed snatch blocks would make it a little easier. Super admirable work man!

Eric. you are amazing. do not stop what you are doing. I'm following in your tracks when I find my track of land. I love your techniques and wisdom. thankyou for videotaping for us. I know it slows your progress, but you are sacrificing for me and others to be able to do what you exemplify

Wow those woods are a death trap. you keep getting hung up & tripping over all the stuff on the ground, clearing it out would take some time in the begining however the efficiency & time gained not to mention accidents prevented will be PRICELESS. Try it.

And p. s. this is truly back building work as muscles are building. Not back braking work even when I commit to my home at age 55. I will build and rebuild my muscle. Thankyou Eric, will definitely sleep well. so amazing!

Laddie buck, You did a fine job, should you do something like this again, and do it with only hand tools, do you self a favor and learn about some primitive winch's they will save your back and not bust your nuts

First off nice job, now for the bad news. Would have been easier and faster to use some rope and pulleys to drag logs out. Keep up the good work and remember work smarter not harder and Deeds not words

And remember, no windows on the north side of the cabin! Old tradition. And door opening to the vest or south if possible. That is the way to utilise daylight and snow melting easier on front side then.

Surprised you dont get too noticeably tired from all that. I play with my puppy for 5 minutes and Im exhausted. Glad to see that youre still uploading even with the whole CCP virus going on.

Son, no one can ever accuse you of being lazy. Well they can but if they do then they do not know what there talking about. I wish a lot more kids had your will power and work ethic.

Erik; I greatly admire your labour and ingenuity in moving the lumber for your cabin. I am interested to know what the trees are which you have felled and prepared for the building.
reply

Hej Erik, I love you doing this huge amount of work. Watching you for hours. But please don't start big smokey fires releasing CO2 again, just throw the rests among the trees.

Extraordinary effort and single mindedness. What an inspirational achievement. Ive been moving much smaller logs this morning and I am wiped! Good to see you, Erik.

I like what you're doing, but you're going to have a hernia by the time you're 25. I built full scribe log homes for a bit, I really enjoyed working with the logs.

Absolutely amazing- cant believe I am sitting here watching a kid build the best ever cabin with ease. kudos to this young man hes definitely awesome!

Wow - getting the logs to the camp seems to be the physically hardest part of the whole thing.
Fortunately for you - logs are not square.

It is impressive to see your motivation and the beauty of the work you do. I love your videos. Much encouragement and greetings from Spain

I wonder why sometimes you strip the logs from the bottom up and sometimes you work from the top down? Enjoy this very much.

Erik i'm new here in sweden what are the rules and regulations for cutting trees. Im planing to build a log cabin for myself.
reply

Why don't u get 4 wheels and two axles attach them to the log via straps or ropes and wheel the log down the hill
reply

Using old and traditional methods. I salute you for this. You should view the video, Alone in the Wilderness.
