How I Edge Grass #49
video description
In the weekend I edged my entire front yard before mowing and it is back to top form! Hurrah!
I had tried and gotten frustrated with the manual rotary edger and apparently I am just NOT that strong enough to make it actually cut. Resorted to doing it by hand, on my knees with either my garden scissors (normal craft) or edging scissors OR ripping the grass with my hands.
NEXT on my to buy list is a battery line trimmer.

When i edged the lawn with my parents growing up we used the tool you have at the start of the year if the bed had lost any shape and then we actually manually cut the grass edge each time we mowed. We had this long handled shear thing. it was pretty strong. I forget it's name and we'd just walk sideways long the edge and trim it up! I never used power tools until I moved to America for these kinds of things and we had quite a large and long garden in the UK.

Confession: I use to edge our grass with scissors. We didn't have a real edger until a few years into our marriage, and before that I'd be out snipping away to keep things tidy. All while my husband had a good laugh in the background. ;) Glad I didn't make him watch this with me. I was about to be all, Look, Laura does it too. Guess not, haha, great thumbnail photo!

Love your videos and it has inspired me to start gardening and things are actually surviving! Would love a video on how you care and Clean your garden tools, especially pruners. How to sharpen them or keep them sharp. Thank you for all that you do and please keep sharing your wisdom.

Do you add any mulch/groundcover after you re-define your beds? I edge the same way and usually have to add a cover afterwards. For me, that's the only stinky part of manual edging. Thanks for all of your help!

How do you keep the mulch from running out when it rains? I plan on removing all my stone border next month and getting rid of the red mulch and changing to black. Just worried about run off.
