I just found out about this myself, but sunflowers (seeds, shells, roots, leaves. everything) is very poisonous for some plants, so be careful about what they can impact, even in years to come in those beds. A local farmer had a bad zucchini year because he used the same bed where he planted sunflowers LAST year, and I had a sunflower seed bird feeder last year next to my rhododendron and elderberry and I think theyre both suffering this year because of it: / apparently theres some research into using sunflower as weedkiller, but I dont know if it affects all plants or some more than others. just a heads up!

Just a suggestion. Try harvesting some of your garlic young, when the stalks are still all green. You end up with mild tasting bulbs and green stalks that can be eaten raw and wonderful in salsas (we can often find them in markets down here as fresh or Mexican garlic. Also on both my onions and garlic I will cut off some of the green stalks and use them first (don't have to buy scallions during that time) and leave the bulbs with some of the greens intact. They still mature fine and that way I get the best of both.

Ive learned so much from your videos! My daughter has been in charge of our veggie garden for a long time and has complained about things not growing as she thinks they should, including her garlic. You talk a lot about fertilizer and Im beginning to think the lack of it is at least part of our problem; simply adding compost to the beds every spring doesnt replenish the nutrients in the soil. Anyway, Ill be keeping a close eye on our garlic now that I know when to harvest it, so thank you for that information.

How fun. to have an area where you can just pop some seeds in and see what happens! Laura, your garden is looking sooo good and you had a lovely harvest of garlic and onions! It was nice to see your garden Supervisor Russell and his apprentice Cheddar helping you out this morning. Now, thanks for the inspiration, I think I'll go out and plant some of my zinnia and sunflower seeds today, you're probably right in thinking there's still time. Loved the editing and insert Aaron!

You had me from Walla Walla sweets. Love those onions! They are almost like candy!
Your garden looks fabulous thanks for sharing the harvest information. Love how one thing leads to the next in the garden. It never sleeps more or less. :)
Your harvest on the garlic and onions looks fantastic. I may try that next year in container beds on our deck. Easy and retired, it suits us for quantity that we would use.
Blessings

Omg Cheddar squishing the poor beans. I prefer my chedder on broccoli, thank you haha. I love veggie garden videos. Something about it is just so feel good and homey. The Willow in the background is soo dreamy and beautiful I know you didn't think it would be, but your harvest was amazing! Those bulbs were mostly huge and beautiful looking. Can't wait to see the squash and zinnias growing

Hi Laura! It was nice seeing your vegetable garden. Also, it was nice learning what to look for when harvesting the onions and garlic and how you dry and prep them for storage. Do you plant garlic in the fall for next years harvest? Also, do you use the drip system in your vegetable garden, or soaker hoses? Just curious because they look like my soaker hoses. Thank you for sharing!

You're a great teacher. So many people are general in their descriptions saying something like the garlic is ready because it is starting to turn brown as apposed to you who gave us a very specific way noting 2 nodes of dry and one of green being the optimal time. These sorts of details make for great teachers. BTW I have purple prince! They are VERY pink and barely purple.

Thank you so much for your thorough, easy to follow and learn information. You have been a godsend! Bab you please tell me if you use all organic vegetables in planting? Is it a huge difference in brands? I'm totally new at this and need vegetable garden success for sustainability reasons, and without high cost. Thank you again
