How Im Digging & Storing Our Dahlias! Garden Answer Regina: Thank you for creating this video! I love all of my flowers. but this past spring I found an already-opened half pack of 2 year old dahlia seeds, and planted them thinking they wouldn't actually grow. I got 2 huge bushy dahlia plants out of it and they ended up being my favorites this year. One grows all white blooms and they aren't the typical layered dahlias, they look a bit like daisies with wider petals, and the other one is really cool. it grows regular yellow dahlias, and it also blooms these gorgeous pink and yellow daisy-looking ones. All on one plant. And it's weird the way the pink and yellow mix it almost looks tie-dye. Although later in the summer and now that it's fall they're a lot more yellow with only a little pink. Ugh I love them so much.
I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to save them for next year but i feel so much better now thanks!

Youre not a slow learner. There are 7 types of learning styles. Most classrooms are set up for the visual learner and they leave out the other 6 learning styles therefore students feel that they are slow learners. You are a typical kinesthetic learner! I loved teaching this type of student because a kinesthetic learner combines visual, auditory and movement to grasp and solve learning situations. In other words they learn and solve problems mainly through hands-on experience. You have one added learning style which is Natural or Nature Lovers. There are students who learn through or connect with nature. Parents would do well to study up on learning styles and ensure that all 7 styles are being addressed in the classroom so their child wont feel slow. I love your videos because I too am a kinesthetic and visual learner just like you.

I've been growing dahlias for over 10 years. I have never had a problem storing dahlias until the last 2 years. Each winter have been crazy warm where I have to keep changing, moving my spot here in zone 6b SE Michigan.
Also. I learned for me that washing all my tubers doesn't always work. Last year I might of tried to store them while the inside of the tubers were still wet. Always shake them because you can hear the water.
About piercing dahlias. You can hit one with your fork and they will be fine as long as you don't hit the crown or eyes. I have cut rot and yuck on many dahlias where I've had just a small piece of the tuber (crown) and eyes were still there, grew fine. Just make sure any rotting or yuck is off the tuber so it doesn't spread.

Bummer. I wish I searched for this video sooner. Im new to gardening and someone gave me some dahlia roots last week. I kept them in the pail for a week because I didnt have time to run to the store. Now Im realizing that the roots need to be rinsed and dried and then packed away. The roots at the top of the pail are dry and wrinkly now, but the ones further down are still good. Im rinsing them today and letting them dry overnight for packing tomorrow. I hope mine will survive the winter. Wish me luck!

Laura. Im like you. Visual learner. This is my third time watching this video. This time making notes. But as you mentioned at the end - it is so helpful to watch you go through the process first then do the recap. Had you gone through the list before I would not have picked up as quickly and just talking it out would definitely not have been enough! So thank you very much for taking us through this step by step. These are my most favorite videos you do.

Hello from Australia, I bought 2 dahlias last summer, but never got around to putting them in the ground so they died, so i thought, and was very upset with myself, so i was cleaning the back yard last week and thought just get rid of them and started pulling them out from their pots and realised they have tubers, oh my god was i happy so i left them in the pots, so now i know what to do with them, thank you so much

Thank you for this video. I just started planting Dahlias dinner plate Dahlias in the last few yes and it was by trial and error. We live where we need to dig ours every year and sometimes mine looked shriveled by the spring and when planted produced very small and undeveloped Dahlias. I now know what I've been doing wrong. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the visual education. I read lots of gardening books that explain how to do things and I always fall asleep in the middle of their explanation. I need to watch it being done for it to sink in. I have a beautiful pot of dahlias on my porch that I want to keep for next year.
