Testing an Automower! Is this the Future? Garden Answer Amanda: We bought one of these about 18 months ago and absolutely love it! Super easy to install, we rented that machine to put in the line and did several acres in about 90 minutes. Easy to move the line if want to change it later. It is a bit of an upfront investment, but since we were paying a landscaper to mow. it has paid for itself already. We think it was totally worth the $. Just have to do the edges. We have scheduled it to run early in the morning so it's not in the way when we are out on the lawn. It even runs in the rain. My husband bought a dog house (Home Depot) for it and cut a wider hole for it to live in. :-)

We saw an auto mower being offered at our local Lowes awhile back but I was afraid it might end up in our pool! Obviously I didn't look too hard into how it works. Looks really intriguing but I cant help but wonder how often you are recommended to change or sharpen the blades? What will the battery life be like? Especially for something that sits outside in the sun and heat all summer long? Also, that is a pretty steep price tag, I could buy a few mowers AND pay myself (or someone else) a solid hourly rate to mow for quite awhile and still not reach that expense.

I can buy a great lawn tractor with a mowing deck and dump trailer for that price. Your mower is a waste of money and utility. It mows grass and nothing more! (So is a Roomba for that matter. It doesn't even mulch leaves which even the most basic lawnmower must do around our house. Random patterns is a waste of time than the efficiency of going back and forth or in concentric circles unless you want to have a mower in continuous duty scurrying around in the background as an annoying as a Roomba under foot.

While visiting Oslo, Norway two summers ago I marveled at how neat and tidy all the park lawns were all the time. then I saw the fleet of little mower robots running around. It took me a while to figure out where they were going home to as there were dome shaped huts of woven willow placed over the bases with an archway as a door. Vining plants were growing all over the huts so they blended into the gardens perfectly and when the mower was parked inside you almost couldn't see them at all!

Putting it on Santa's list as we speak. I guess I'll have to break the news to our gardener in the new year. Thanks for covering the two different sections of lawn. We have an upper and lower garden separated by slate stairs. Is there any benefit to those who may be allergic to the occasional mushroom spore that sometimes gets thrown up when mowing? Thanks once again and was happy to see you had your good knee pad in order to do the review.

I understand the novelty of an item like this but theoretically you could employ someone to mow the area for ($200 month) three years and still be under or right at the cost of what the unit is depending on the model. Unless the unit is guaranteed for more than that amout of time it seems like a waste of resources. /electricity/cost/ etc. (Don't mind me, I couldn't afford it anyway)

Overall, I'm impressed with how far the technology has come on this Bestfor. Garden also recommended and how relatively trouble-free this has been so far. The unit is sturdy and seems to be made with good quality parts, and they provided an ample quantity of stakes and wire. The instruction booklet is pretty clear, and didn't give me any problems to figure out what to do.

I love the concept. I'm waiting for someone to build my dream mower. It would have all the power and size of my push mower ( battery, of course) so it could mulch the leaves from my 30 trees. My other feature would be remote control instead of autonomy. I can see myself with an iced coffee in the shade with a Wii controller.

I've wanted one for years! My husband says I can get one when the current mowers die!
I also have robot vacumes and i love it!
You still have to do edges and under things ect. But i can do a million other things like garden and come inside to nice straight lines and just vacuumed the steps and edges in 10mins.

I loved watching this- these are super cool! Call me crazy but I love mowing my lawn- I use an electric mower that has no exhaust fumes and so quiet and easy to push so I don't mind spending the time mowing and thinking about what next to do in the garden. I'd much rather mow than vacuum or inside chores!
