Planting 8, 000 Bulbs in the Orchard! Garden Answer Isla: Bless you, you're giving me heart that I haven't left it too late to get my monster bulb hoard planted. It's been relatively warm here too (northern Ireland) and I'm not an experienced gardener, so I misjudged the number of bulbs per kilo and ended up buying 60kg of double daffodils - Tahiti and White Lion. . I've spent the last couple of weeks just digging to make flowerbeds for them, then conditioning our heavy clay soil with 3000L of compost so far, and I ache all over! Still yet to plant a bulb. All told, I've got about 10000 bulbs to plant and when I tried using an auger with a drill, it spun me round the other end so I'm just going to do it by digging and excavating. Congratulations on getting your bulb mountain in the ground, I bet it's going to be breathtaking! Thank you for giving me some hope that I can get finished too. (Going to need a new body at the end of this, though)

Horrors! You're planting Spanish Bluebells. Here in England (I can't speak for Scotland, Wales and Ireland) but in England there is a great campaign to eliminate them from our gardens and discourage planting them especially near ancient native woodland as they hybridize so readily with our native bluebells and produce a hybrid of great vigour but lacking in the grace and charm and delicate scent of the English bluebell. Once you have planted them Laura, you'll have them forever! But you are in a different part of the world in a different climate so that may make a difference. Your wildflower meadow will be delightful next spring anyway.

It's going to be a magical space. Colorblends is going to be working overtime to prepare for demand next fall, as you inspire everyone to turn their yards into magical blooming meadows.
I would love to be able to till my clay soil as easily as the tractor. Does the tractor till deeper than the Mantis and other standard tillers?

So excited to see the bulbs in spring time. We have Spanish bluebells in our garden and they are like a weed here in the UK ( at least in my garden they are! ) I can be quite brutal with them and they always come back the following year. Snake heads Fritillary are my favourite of the spring flowers. Genius idea using the tractor!

man this will look just wonderful in spring! how do you plan your orders? I always get overwhelmed by the variety, what blooms when and then end up with a mix that blooms in weird times (not all at once, just patches) and do not get the result that i want. but in my case, i just have a 4 square meter balcony with a few pots: D

It was almost painful when you said you were including Spanish bluebells, I spent so much time and labor digging them out in my garden this year. They are pretty, smell nice but are fairly invasive and I was just trying to get them under control. At least I could dig them unlike the calla lilies.

Texas 8b Sooo excited to see your Spring results in the orchard! I have to winterize my bulbs here, still on my ToDoList. Then pray they even survive my squirrels and moles that absolutely think I set out a buffet in Feb. just for them. Happy Planting Y'all & Blessings Always!

How gorgeous is the show of bulbs going to be, especially as it pops through the grassy meadow. I can see it and it is breathtaking. Jealous that you don't have to put cayenne pepper in with your bulbs; I have to otherwise the squirrels would ruin all my hard work!

The flowers in the orchard will be so pretty in spring! Cant wait to see it in full bloom. I noticed that you planted them everywhere and couldnt see any walkways through the orchard. How will you pick fruit off your trees without stepping on flowers?

How do you remember where the bulbs are planted and then plant above ground plants above, or around them? I assume you just space it all out to fill in together? Also, can you seed wildflowers in with these same types of bulbs?
