Decorating the Balcony & Portico! Garden Answer Althea: Hi Laura
Ive only recently (about 6 months ago) discovered Garden Answer!
And I eagerly watch all your gardening and decorating exploits
All your plants and projects inspire me and the beauty of it all just feeds my soul.
Also I must say you all are a lovely family.
So much joy comes through your videos. What a blessing!
Now Im enjoying and being inspired by all your Christmas decorating. Your home is so lovely and Christmasy
I also love decorating with lights and all things red and green. How I wish I could use evergreen garlands but Im sure they wouldnt survive our summer temperatures here in Australia.
Looking forward to seeing all the lights and decorations when theyre finished.
Merry Christmas!

I wonder if a single larger wreath in the middle of the peak above your 2nd story windows would lessen your need for multiple wreaths up there. The garland & bows on your 2nd story railing is brilliant! It softens all the straight architectural edges. Inspiring as always. I was finishing an old-fashioned mistletoe 'cage' (made with velvet covered embroidery hoops) as I watched!

Looks gorgeous. I've been watching the new property playlist and you were installing a composting area. Could you please do a video showing how it's looking now? Do you have compost you're able to use at the moment? Any good tips for composting from a small garden with no constant supply of grass clippings or mass pruning? Most my compostable waste is kitchen scraps

I must share this with you.
So i was watching this episode of yours and my husband passes by ( he knows that i watch your programme ) and says is'nt supposed to be snowing there now. That's a cold place right? I had a smile on my face and said Yes it is, but it has'nt snowed yet.
That's how much a part of my family you have become!
BTW I am from India.

I definitely dont recommend putting a red bow on the two boxwood planters. This is a perfect example of the importance of editing. What youve done so far looks beautiful. If you keep adding stuff its going to start looking cluttered and your eye wont know where to rest. Great work, Laura!

I used to be intimidated by the idea of making my own bows, but your excellent instructions inspired me to try a few years ago and now I look forward to it every year. Thank you for the patience you show each time you go thru the steps and for continuing inspiration. You are amazing.

Looks fantastic. Add red berries (either real or faux pics) into the topiaries instead of bows/ribbon.
Adding a few of your larger pinecone in the window boxes would look nice. Love all your decorations; definitely gives me ideas for my own home. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I like to spray paint some of the filler pine cones red and add sparkle glitter. Sometimes adding a bow doesnt quite do it in the planter boxes. I have purchased fake velvety poinsettia and added them with my greens or planters. They help add the pop of red.

Isnt funny how we want natures simple beauty to decorate our homes and lives. were reminded that the Joys of Christmas are not all glitz and glamour but just whats out our front door. Earth, trees, sky, pine cones, snow, birds, etceven the fog

It all turned out so pretty! Just looking at your window boxes with the greenery in them, I have to say I love the simplicity. Another time they could look amazing with battery operated candles in them with the greenery.
