Grape Harvest, Canning Grape Juice & Planting with Benjamin! I use the steamer that s been in my husbands family for generations so it s not all shiny but has brought so much flavorful joy to our family. I use it mainly to juice fruits for jelly -chokecherries, crabapple, plums, and juneberry- yum! Enjoy this new tool for years and years to come. I hook the pincher closer to the spout and hang it on the handle so it doesn t drip during processing.

Laura, I appreciate so much your canning videos this year. I don't know if I'll ever do any of that, I'm mostly a city girl with a small garden but. My grandmother and aunts used to talk of all the canning they did (they were farmers from Iowa and Oregon, Lakeview) and I never got to experience it with them. Of course, they didn't have all the newer-fangled equipment and didn't even have air conditioning to enjoy while they were doing all the work, but your demonstrations are a real connection for me to them and to the caring, difficult work that they did to sustain their families through decades, including through the Depression in the 1930s. I recall canning time for them was also a time where they came together to help each other's households and to share family time. It was hard work, but they loved the traditions associated with it. I have done a lot of pickling this year: cucumbers, okra, banana peppers, and am working on so many of the great methods you've shown us. Great job on the grape juice!

You are becoming a canning maven this year, Laura. Wow! It s a great treat in the winter to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You just can t buy anything as good. I tried a tomato recipe from the Elliot Homestead a few years ago when I had San Marzano tomatoes and a lot of cherry tomatoes. Just roasted with some garlic cloves and put in a jar with some herbs and covered with olive oil. She said they ll last a year in the fridge. Delicious! I didn t have them all winter. I didn t have that many, but I would do it again in a heartbeat if I had a lot of tomatoes. Great on burgers and sandwiches or as a side. It would be good with pasta too. probably with some spinach or broccoli and fresh grated Parmesan. Roasting brings out the sweetness. No processing. Just have to make sure they stay covered with olive oil and you get out any air bubbles when you pack them. Yum! You may want to check it out if it sounds good to you. Are you going to roast some peppers and can them?

Laura so fun to see you utilize your harvest in canning! So much more healthy for all of you. Which you know. But can we just say oh my goodness on the grape harvest! That was so interesting! I have wild Concord grape in my front yard. Last year I made jelly. But they always scent my front yard with their amazing scent! My front yard has designated wet lands. In the 30 years we ve lived here I have never been able to reach the grapes. Last year they just hung abundantly close to the ground. I was so excited. I made juice and jelly that was just amazing!
Maybe make some sauce from your tomatoes? You can never have enough fresh sauce! Wouldn t it be fun to see how much you save from having to purchase tomatoes and peppers, onions, potatoes and fruit? Especially now since the cost has become so over inflated!

Hi Laura, that juice looks so good. You know this, but peach, apple & tomato juice would be good too! There's no limits to what you can juice! I have a question about the nine bark, I purchased one two summers ago now and it looks so sad. I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, very hot and humid in the summer and full on wind and cold in the winter, normally anyway. I placed it in full sun and because I'm right at the end of the zones for it, zone 7, I'm thinking maybe I should move it out of the full on all day sun? Just wanted your opinion, I know it's a different zone than you all but thought this question would be okay to ask. Thanks for all you do! xoxox

Watching you can the grape juice made me thirsty! Love all your videos! Questions about the kids. having just retired after nearly 39 years of working as a teacher aide with elementary through high school children, 10 of those years in preschool, I was wondering if Benjamin is attending school yet or if you and Aaron plan on homeschooling him and eventually Samantha Grace. You are amazing parents and I'm sure they will flourish whichever path you choose to take.

Such a joy watching you add plants to your young beautiful neat garden. I once spent a few years reestablishing a Victorian walled garden: Rescuing, propagating old and introducing new flowers and shrubs. Mine looked more like a landfill site because of all the upside down lemonade bottles where cuttings were placed to propagate in situ Hashtag needs must.

It's a cool 65-degree here in East Tennessee this morning. The good Lord has blessed me with a beautiful morning! I love watching you and hearing the excitement in your voice when the product you're canning turns out the way you want! I am thrilled that your garden has provided you with food that you can enjoy in the winter months!

Gracious! That juice looks amazing! My mouth was watering watching you taste it! Now, who is Mateo? A viewer? A friend? A company? Kudos to him for his generosity! That steamer is a game changer! I never knew there was such a thing! Sure looks like it made the whole process very easy! Did you wash the grapes before the process?

p. s, that grape juice is absolutely beautiful!
QUESTION: Laura can you make us a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a stem of your grapes added in?

I love everything about this video. Your content quiets down all the ugly noise going on in this world. You re growing more than beautiful plants- you re growing beautiful, smart, caring children as well. Benjamin is a joy to watch- the way his face looks when his little mind is turning is just priceless

How do you keep the birds from picking at the grapes? It s amazing how you can grow some food with minimal pest damage. It s as if there s no wild life out there! I compete with deer, chipmunks, birds, rabbits etc. Perhaps with all the vegetation you re planting you will eventually attract the wild life.

Laura, so agree! If you are going to the trouble of growing food items, you should definitely save & store whatever your family uses the most of! Especially with the costs of food being so high right now.
I use cheesecloth to strain my homemade chicken broth. You should try that for your grape juice.

Love the new plants you have added to your landscape. Benjamin's pick is especially beautiful. I love the idea of making your own juice. What a way to use your grapes. If you decide to make grape jelly please let us see. I would love to know how it turns out. Thank you and have a blessed day everyone

Hi Laura! I believe you are setting a record for planting this year! Are the steps at the back of the pond completed, or did I miss that video? PLEASE keep the canning videos going, it's one of my favorite things to do! I may purchase a steamer and try it on my muscadine grapes! Thanks for sharing!

My mother canned concord grape juice. She just washed the grapes, took off the stems put the grapes in a quart jar, added some sugar and water, then canned them. when you opened the jar you used the canning lid to keep the grapes in jar. Ir was pretty easy but the steamer looks very easy too.

You can also drain all the juice in a large pitcher, get the next batch of grapes going in the steamer, and then pour the juice from the pitcher into the jars. It reduces how many times you have to open the hose clamp down from 12 to 1.
We consider the jars of juice as concentrate.

My husband bought me grape plants a couple of years ago. They took down my wire and staple trellis so we built a wooden one. I didn t know how to make juice so I m excited about this video. I m always amazed at the health of your plants. The Japanese beetles did a number on mine.
